The Joongang Student Reporter (JSR) program is a six-month opportunity for U.S.
high school students to report for a major news organization. As a student reporter, the
student will write articles that may be published in the weekly Education section or the daily
pages of The Korea Daily (Joongang Ilbo) as well as the website, www.jstudentboard.com.

High School Fall 2012 Reporting Session

Students will submit two articles per month during the six-month session. Each of your
articles will be edited and returned to you, prior to being published. Additionally, the JSR
program will offer educational handouts and workshops on news writing and grammar.
Students who complete the Fall 2012 session will receive a certificate from The Korea Daily
and will be qualified to receive certification from the state of California.

The application for the Fall 2012 reporting session is due Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
The application must be postmarked by this date. Selected reporters will be notified by July 3,
2012. They will also be listed on the website, www.jstudentboard.com.

Students who are accepted to the program will be required to attend a mandatory orientation,
tentatively set for Saturday, July 21, 2012, at The Korea Daily in Los Angeles. Students who
do not live in the Southern California region will not be required to attend. Other options will
be made available to these students. If you cannot attend the orientation, you must send a
notification in advance to jstudentboard@gmail.com.

The Fall 2012 reporting session officially begins on Monday, July 23, 2012, when the
first group of articles is due. Failure to meet multiple article deadlines will make the student
ineligible for certification at the end of the session.
