Lopez Elementary School
March 30, 2012 Leaders today - Leading tomorrow Deon Davis, Principal
Phone: 970-488-8800 http://www.psdschools.org/schools/lopez/ firstname.lastname@example.org
As you will learn today in a letter from Dr. Hahn (attached), I will not be the continuing principal at Lopez next year. I am
proud of the good work we have done as a school and the progress we have made as a school community in the interest and
benefit of the students whom we share. I also look forward to the important work we have yet to do this year. I am fortunate
to have the opportunity this year to step in and help lead Lopez. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to come to know
the Lopez school community and to serve in this capacity. What I anticipated as a potentially rocky start in fact never
materialized—staff and parents always kept the end in mind and worked to ensure a welcoming and stable environment for
our Lopez students. I’m pleased to say that this ethic has continued throughout the year and I look forward to finishing strong.

THANK YOU LOPEZ from 4th Grade
The 4 grade students and teachers would like to thank all the families that participated in last Friday night’s ICE CREAM
INVENTOR fundraiser. It was a huge success. Our inventors were very excited to share their creations with the community.
Over $190 was raised and over 120 votes were cast to select a Lopez winner. A big congratulations goes to Addie Francone
from Mr. Shrull’s class. Her flavor “Strawberry Cloud” will compete against 9 other schools later this year. We will keep you
posted on the date! The other two flavors, “Rootbeer Fun” by Lauren Tharp and “Chocolate Mint Cookie” by Macee Dugger,
only had 3 votes separating them!

TCAPs February 28 - April 6 – One more week!
With the end in sight, I want to give special thanks to everyone for helping to make this another successful testing period.
Thank you to Susan Steinmark and Susie Gunstream for creating a workable and relatively low-impact schedule for teachers
and students. Thanks also to Letty Hunter for an outstanding job of labeling and coordinate test booklets, schedule make-up
sessions and exactly meeting district and state requirements. Thank you to PTA for providing small snacks for each session.
And last, but certainly not least, thanks to you for ensuring that your children were ready to test!
