3 SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Provide strategic leadership and management of a Curriculum Directorate, being
responsible for all aspects of the delivery of curriculum by the teams in the
Directorate.
2 Advise the Vice Principal, Curriculum and Quality, other senior postholders and
the Governing Body on strategic issues within the remit of the post
3 As a member of the senior management team contribute to the strategic planning
and direction of the College and lead by example, adherence to the College’s
mission, values and vision.
4 To drive forward the continuous improvement of the quality of teaching and
levels of learning and achievement
5 To have responsibility for specific cross college roles, strategic roles, e.g., 14-16,
14-19, adult curriculum, work based learning, key skills, skills for life, tutorials etc.
6 Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with appropriate external
bodies to ensure the high profile of Kirklees College.
In order to achieve these, the Director will provide Strategic leadership throughout the
Directorate
7 To set and achieve organisational objectives in all aspects of strategic
development in the Curriculum Directorate.
8 To devise and implement ILT strategies to improve the quality of teaching and
learning.
9 Researching and evaluating information in order to develop strategy and
evaluating options for change.
10 Analysing, planning, developing and implementing a shared vision.
11 Motivating others to contribute to the vision.
12 Adopting reflective practice in order to manage change and continuous
improvement, through leading teams and individuals to enable them to achieve
objectives and continuously improve performance.

13 Managing the acquisition, development and deployment of resources to facilitate
and promote learning.
14 Contributing to the development of the College Development Plan, implementing
an Operational Plan for the Directorate, monitoring and adjusting as necessary.
4 DUTIES:
1 To set and achieve specified organisational objectives, through close liaison with
other members of SMT, Managers and SSA Leaders
2 To coach and mentor Managers and Team Leaders within the Directorate to
effectively deliver targets
3 To represent SMT at internal and external committees as appropriate
4 To lead project teams for specific aspects of College development
5 To be proactive in identifying opportunities for College development, including
the contracting and delivery of non-traditional learning programmes.
6 To lead, develop and manage the curriculum to ensure high standards of delivery
which meet learners needs.
7 To lead, develop and manage Retention, Achievement, Teaching and Learning
Strategies to improve standards. To assess the quality of teaching and learning.
To validate lesson observation grades. To monitor their effectiveness and
implement/oversee implementation of appropriate changes.
8 To report to SMT on the achievement of Key Performance Indicators and to
advise on and make necessary changes.
9 Promote and manage change to ensure the successful integration of the
functions under the control of the postholder.
10 To lead, develop and manage comprehensive and rigorous quality assurance
processes and information systems for monitoring, evaluating and benchmarking
performance. Identify and implement actions that lead to sustainable
improvements. Ensure that all processes develop the College capacity to self
improve.
11 To lead a comprehensive teacher development programme to ensure innovation
in teaching and learning methods including the use of ILT are embedded in all
curriculum delivery
12 To lead, develop and manage a rigorous framework for course review and self-
assessment ensuring college performance is rigorously assessed against
OFSTED, ALI and LSC standards
13 To monitor and evaluate curriculum area performance to identify performance
issues, including under performing courses. Oversee the effectiveness of
actions and progress made through the regular review of Quality Improvement
Development Plans and course reviews. Identify action and provide advice to
teams to ensure Key Performance Indicators are achieved and standards
improved.
14 To provide specialist knowledge, advice, support and technical training, and
recommendations for improvement to SMT, and staff on, quality and
performance issues. Manage or facilitate continuous improvement activity, e.g.
identify and facilitate improvement teams, assist colleagues to monitor and
evaluate performance, problem solve and action plan.

15 To effectively lead and manage the administration of the directorate ensuring
records are appropriately maintained and appropriate operational reports are
available for Senior Management Team. Managing workloads to ensure that
deadlines and priorities are met.
16 Represent the college at the highest level with LSC, other funding bodies, local
and national authorities.
17 To evaluate performance and provide a range of action and monitoring reports to
the SMT, College committees and the College Board, detailing action taken or
recommendations for change and improvement.
18 To act as a fully participating member of key decision making groups in the
College, including chairing committees, preparing and writing reports as required
19 To advise the Principal and SMT on appropriate models, resources and policies
for the effective delivery of the functions of the Directorate.
20 To produce an annual Operational Plan for the Directorate.
21 To manage the timely and accurate provision and use of data relating to all areas
of work within the Directorate.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF POST
Duration of Post: The post is offered on a permanent basis.
Working Hours: You will be expected to work such hours as are reasonably necessary
for the proper performance of your duties and responsibilities, with a
minimum of 37 hours per week.
Salary: c. £56,000pa This will be confirmed by evaluating the job.
Notice Period: To the College = Three Months. From the College = Three months.
In the event of redundancy = 4 months.
Pension Scheme: Eligible for membership of the Teachers Pension Scheme.
Special Required to participate in occasional evening/weekend events as
Conditions of the necessary e.g. committee meetings and duty rotas.
