Section 6 - Community Goals
A - Description of Process
During November of 1997, the committee developed a questionnaire to be
distributed to the residents of the Town of East Bridgewater via the mail. In early
December, the questionnaires were mailed. The residents had a choice of returning them
by mail or to drop them at 14 different drop box locations around the town at places
where the residents would most likely frequent. Such places chosen were banks, the
library, school and at the town hall. About 5,030 surveys were distributed with
instructions that if more were needed, additional copies could be obtained at the Town
Hall. 529 surveys were returned representing 10.5% of those distributed.
The collected surveys were tabulated for analysis in a Microsoft EXCEL 5.0
workbook. The final results are included in the Appendix. There were handwritten
comments submitted which have been transcribed for information purposes. These
comments help to provide some insight as to what people are thinking of the town and
possibly assist town government in planning actions in the future.
The results of the survey were provided to the Selectmen and the public in
February. Copies of the Draft Plan were submitted to the Planning Board, Selectmen and
the Old Colony Planning Council, our regional planning agency, for review and
comments. In addition, copies of the draft were submitted to the Board of Health, Zoning
Board of Appeals and Recreation Committee. Any changes recommended by them were
considered and the revisions made as deemed necessary. Upon receipt of the public
comments the Plan was submitted to the Division of Conservation Services.
