Halloween Activities and Guidelines at PES
Costumes-October4 31 ONLY
Costumes are optional and should be kept simple. Some classrooms are foregoing costumes
for other events – check with your student or classroom teacher
Costumes and shoes need to be adaptable for all school activities – lunch, recess, PE., etc…
and should not distract from the educational process.
NO WEAPONRY OF ANY KIND – this includes swords, knives, guns, axes, pitchforks, etc. EVEN
IF made of cardboard, plastic, wood or rubber.
Masks will only be worn during the morning parade and classroom party. No gruesome make-
PHS Homecoming Parade: The PHS Homecoming parade will be held Friday, October 26th starting
11:00-11:40am. The parade begins at PHS, down to PES, onto PMS and then over to CPS.
Community Trick or Treat: Philomath business will be sponsoring this fun event on Halloween
evening 3:00-5:00pm. Local business owners will be distributing candy on Main Street between 12th
St. and 14th St. It is requested that children are accompanied by an adult.
Philomath Community Halloween Party: The PES Parent Club is proud to put on the Halloween
Party once again on Halloween Night from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at PES, with trick-or-
treating, carnival games, movies, and more. This is a free event for all Philomath
families with young children, who must have an adult chaperon with them at all
times at the party. We need parents and responsible middle school and high
school students to help at the party handing out candy, running games, etc. A
sign-up sheet is available in the PES office, or contact Jill Chambers 929-7855 or
email@example.com. Parents, please send in a bag of individually-wrapped candy
with your child to the office by Wednesday Oct 31, for handing out at the party.
Don’t forget to turn in your Box Tops. Each one is worth $.10. We are having a CPS/PES
school wide contest. Which grade will win? The contest will run from October 1st-October 29th. Box Tops are located
above the lost and found.
S P PES T-Shirt Contest: Students interested in entering the Parent Club T-shirt contest can turn in
S entries to the office by Tuesday, October 23rd. A winner will be chosen and that design will be
featured on this year's school shirts. Designs should be on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of white paper and
include "Philomath Elementary School" or "PES" and "2012-2013." Entries
should only use four colors, including black as an outline color and have the
student's name and teacher's name on the back.
T-shirt Contest Rules:
The artwork should be submitted on a standard 8½ X 11 white sheet of paper.
Philomath Elementary School (or PES) and 2012-2013 should appear somewhere on the artwork.
To keep the cost of the shirts to a minimum, only 4 colors should be used in the design, including a black outline
as one color.
Each student may only submit one entry.
Students should receive no outside help and artwork must be original (not copied).
Students should put their name, and the name of their teacher, on the back of their entry. No names on the
Entries due to the office on Tuesday, October 23rd.

PYAC: The Philomath Youth Activities Club is now taking registrations for youth basketball. Registration
forms for students in the first through sixth grades are available at the Philomath Elementary and Middle School Offices.
Registration may also be completed at the PYAC office, 421 S 19th St. Registration is open until November 14th. Late
registrations will be subject to space availability as well as incurring a $5.00 late fee. Practices will begin after
Thanksgiving and games will begin in early January. For more information call PYAC at 541-929-4040.
