EP62: Executive Workshop on Project
Management

DURATION: 2.0 days

PURPOSE:

This is a facilitated, tailored workshop for executive teams on
project management-related topics chosen by the executives
themselves during a discovery process. The value of the
workshop is that the executive teams can focus on project
management topics that are important to them with the
assistance of a trained facilitator, who is an experienced PM
practitioner. The key result of the workshop is an action plan
created by the executive team during the workshop for their
exclusive use after the workshop to improve the overall
effectiveness of project-based implementations within their
own organization.

The discovery process is key to having a successful executive
workshop. The facilitator interviews, usually by phone, the
sponsoring executive and a selected sample of invited
participants to determine the current state of project
implementations within their organization, and topics or
issues that they wish to address during the workshop. In
addition, all invited workshop participants complete a
questionnaire providing their input during the discovery
process.

The facilitator uses the information gathered during the
discovery process to identify the topics to be included in the
workshop, creates a unique agenda, and holds a second
teleconference with the sponsoring executive to gain his/her
concurrence with the planned agenda.

This course can be applied towards the Project Management
Institute (PMI®) Project Management Professional (PMP®)
Certification or Recertification. See the Certification Program

EP68: Managing Projects in Software
Development

DURATION: 2.0 days

PURPOSE:

Managing Projects in Software Development is organized to
address the phases of a representative Integrated Product
Development (IPD) methodology. Within each phase,
significant software project management activities are
identified and discussed with a focus on how to improve the
desired outcome through the use of techniques and
templates. Each activity may be a fundamental project
management activity that (1) has some operational difference
because it occurs in software development, (2) is innately
high risk, or (3) represents an area in which subject matter
experts have recommended special emphasis be placed.

The overall objective of this course is to improve the
effectiveness of software project managers by increasing their
awareness of (1) operational differences and (2) high-risk
events that exist in the execution of activities that are
common to project management and software development.

The course consists of classroom instructor-led lecture and
discussion, which is reinforced with team and individual
exercises with student feedback that is critiqued by the
instructor, and the other student teams.

This course can be applied towards the Project Management
Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)
Certification or Recertification. See the Certification Program
section below for details.

PMI's Family of Credentials

PMI administers a globally recognized professional credential
program that promotes professional development and maintains
an ISO 9001 certification in Quality Management Systems. PMI’s
leadership as the global certification body for project
management was further advanced in 2006 when the Project
Management Professional (PMP®) credential process received ISO
17024 accreditation.

PMI now offers specific certification for practitioners with different
levels of experience.

• Project Management Professional (PMP)SM
• Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM)®
• Program Management Professional (PgMP)®
• PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)®
• PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)®

The value of PMI credentials is recognized by both individuals and
organizations. And PMI makes the credential application
process as smooth as possible, offering you the option to apply
online or via mail.

Already a PMI credential holder? Congratulations! Our continuing
certification program provides the opportunities to participate in
professional development activities where you earn professional
development units (PDUs) and the tools to report and manage
these activities.
