Newsletter 6 – Friday 23 February
News from recent events
The Year 5 children thoroughly enjoyed their residential visit to How Hill just before half-term.
The snow even enhanced the visit! It was a lot easier to see all the animal tracks in the snow, and
on the boat trip onto the Broad there was lots of wildlife about. Owl pellet dissection and
thatching were among some of the highlights.
Children from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in a Sportshall Athletics tournament at Framingham Earl
High School, against other schools in the Framingham and Hobart Clusters on Monday 23 January.
We then progressed through to the South Norfolk Finals which were held at UEA Sporspark on
Friday 10 February. Following some excellent team and individual performances, we did very well
to finish a very respectable second.
The Year 5 and Year 6 Cross Country Team were in action in the South
Norfolk finals on Tuesday 21 February. There were about 30 schools, and
almost 500 children competing in the races. Following some outstanding
individual performances, and an excellent all round team effort, Poringland
Team won the South Norfolk Finals. Some of the team will go on to compete at the
Norfolk Finals in March.
Our Tag Rugby Team took part in a Framingham and Hobart Cluster Tag Rugby
Tournament in November, and are through to the South Norfolk finals which will take
place on Monday 27 February at UEA.
Upton and Malthouse classes entertained and educated the school with their very enjoyable class
assemblies before half-term.
Reception and Year 1 children had a very successful visit to Norwich Castle Museum
as part of their work at school on Tuesday 21 February
The Juniors enjoyed a Cello assembly on Tuesday 21 February

With the Olympics coming to London in July, our school is working with the Pedal Revolution
Cycling Academy to introduce pupils to Cycle Sport, which was Team GB’s most successful event at
the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with the likes of Victoria Pendleton and Sir Chris Hoy becoming
household names after they won a bucket full of Gold medals!
The Pedal Revolution Academy will visit our school on Wednesday 29th February 2012 to promote
all things cycling! On Thursday 8 March, there will be a FREE Dr. Bike safety check in the morning
by trained mechanics for ALL pupils who bring their bike into school. The mechanics will fix minor
problems such as brakes, flat tyres, dry chains etc. and will tell you where to take it if the job is
The Pedal Revolution academy coaches will work with pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 in the afternoon,
teaching them how to sprint, corner and ride as part of a team in preparation for the Italian Sprint.

Malthouse Thursday 8 March in the afternoon
Fritton Thursday 15 March in the afternoon

Nestle Box Tops for Books
This has been running for years. The tokens are only worth 10p but with your help we

Sainsbury’s Active Kids
From 15 February 2012 you will receive Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
(AKVs) when you shop at a main store, Sainsbury’s Local or Sainsbury’s

to convert your Nectar points into AKVs by visiting nectar.com (please select
the right option from the drop down menu and follow the on-screen
Sainsbury’s AKVs can now be used to purchase cooking utensils, as well as PE equipment. This
order has to be sent off by mid-July.
Look out for the two Tesco schemes later in the year that start from 12 March 2012 ~ for
computers and sports equipment.
We are very grateful for your support with all these schemes. We make good use of the vouchers
you bring in ~ a lot of our PE equipment has been acquired through these initiatives!
Please encourage your family, friends and work colleagues to collect the vouchers as well and
remember … the most important thing is to bring them into the school office as soon as you can –
it is a bit disappointing to receive vouchers once the order has been sent off as none of the
schemes will accept vouchers after the deadline.
