Oleson’s Teacher of the Year
On December 16, 2011, Oleson named their Teacher of the Year. Ms. Shalondra Moore, was
bestowed the prestigious title this year. Ms. Moore came to Oleson during the 2009-2010 school
year where she taught Kindergarten. This year she became the 2nd grade GT teacher. Ms. Moore
was also named Teacher of the Year in 2008 at Francis Elementary.
On Wednesday, January 4th, Oleson gave away 2 bicycles to a boy and girl who had perfect
attendance and were never tardy. The dedicated students who won the bikes were kindergartener
Adam Calzada and third grader Alexandria Lesso.
3K Fun Run
On Tuesday, January 10, 2012 all of Oleson’s students participated in the 15th Annual Texas
Children’s Hospital Kids’ Fun Run. Students and some teachers ran or walked a 3K. Students
received a t-shirt, shoe laces, wristbands, and temporary tattoos. Staff sold bottled water to help
raise funds for a charity. Our 4th grade students voted and the proceeds were donated to Citizens
for Animal Protection. Everyone had a great time.
The Oleson Spelling Bee was held on Friday, January 13, 2012. It was a very close competition
between the students. First place winner was Brianna Saldaña, second place went to Sabrina
Prado, and Andrew Almendarez claimed third place. All three students are fourth graders and in
the same class!
Two bicycles were donated to Oleson Elementary to be given away to the most improved boy
and girl. Teachers submitted the names of two students from their class to be entered into the
drawing. The winners were first graders, Rony Vasquez and Rubi Sanchez. Both students were
thrilled to have won.
MacArthur High FFA
On Friday, January 20, 2012, the MacArthur High School FFA team sponsored a Petting Zoo at
Oleson. Students were able to pet goats, sheep, and a pig for a small donation of $1. A total of
$803 was collected at the petting zoo. All proceeds will be used to help support MacArthur
students in FFA.
Oleson Girl Scouts participated in their Investiture Ceremony on. This is a special ceremony
when the girl's get pinned to become official Girl Scouts. We are proud to say 6 of the girls
bridged to the Brownie level! We have a total of 30 Girls this year! Daisies, Brownies, and
Juniors are on campus displaying lots of leadership skills!
We also participated in The Angel Tree Project with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The Girl
Scout Troop provided toys for area foster children and under privileged children for Christmas!
