General Meeting Minutes
January 8, 2009
Meeting called to order by the President at 7pm
Treasurer’s Report-R. Nadel passed out an updated budget. She noted that band camp money is still
being collected. A check was recently received for the Harris Teeter points totaling $259. The big items
to be discussed are fees/expenses for Winter Guard and Drumline. Some fees have not yet been paid.
There was a discussion regarding transportation for the Drumline and Winter Guard.
Since Bingo Night figures were not part of the budget, the income from this event will help the overall
Marching Band Banquet-Details are still being worked out for the Annual Marching Band Banquet to be
held at MRHS on February 27, 2009. A student committee is working with MRHS administration to plan
Bingo Night-Denise Wahlers is coordinating this event to be held at MRMS on February 5. Her
committee is collecting prizes to be awarded that evening. All prizes must be valued at $10.00 or less.
The MRHS Drum Line will perform prior to the start of the first Bingo game.
Winter Guard and Drum Line-Sharon Smith addressed the group regarding preparations for this season
of Winter Guard. In order to save money, mats were not purchased. Instead, a group of parents and
students spent many hours cleaning, priming, and painting mats to be used this season during the six
competitions (see attached schedule). There was a discussion about the best method for loading and
unloading these very heavy mats. Jim Cronley stated that carts will be constructed which can be
wheeled on and off the trucks for easy travel.
MRMS Concert Band-A preview concert will be performed on March 5, 2009. Prior to this concert, the
band students will have an after school rehearsal. Michelle Williams is securing parents to help
coordinate and the food which will be served to students afterschool. The 8th grade band trip to Florida
is set. Final payments have been made. Families will receive packets with complete itinerary at the
beginning of March.
New Business-A Car Wash fundraiser is still a possibility for the spring. It remains up in the air due to
water restrictions. It was pointed out that a Blakeney location would work better than the previous
Waxhaw location in 2007 because the likelihood of more traffic.
Director’s Report-The Directors expressed their appreciation to MRBB for its assistance with the Chicago
Convention. They detailed what an amazing experience this is and how much it helps them
professionally. Mr. James asked MRBB to provide hospitality/refreshments for the State Marching
Band Committee meeting to be held at MRHS on January 18-19. Twelve directors will be present.
