Daily Objective: To introduce different ways of representing chemical
                   reactions

Driving What are 3 ways I can represent a chemical reaction?
Question:

Warm-Up:           Answer in notes:

                     1. What was the old substance we burned in the last
                        class?

                     2. What was the new substance?

Notes:             Copy in Notes:

                   3 ways to represent a chemical reaction:

                   1. Magnesium + oxygen -> magnesium oxide
                      (reactants)     (goes to form)  (products)

                   2. 2Mg + O2   ->     2MgO

                   3. Model (Styrofoam balls or pictures or gumdrops)

                                    +             

                   ** Notice Mg are 2 separate atoms whereas O is bonded
                   together. The O splits apart and bonds separately to each
                   Mg so it forms 2 molecules of MgO.
