FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 23, 2012

SCIENCE MUSEUM OKLAHOMA ANNOUNCES “SPACE DAYS 2012” with NASA
Astronaut, John Herrington, May 4 and 5.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Science Museum Oklahoma, (SMO), is excited to announce, “Space Days 2012,” on
Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at SMO, with special guest, NASA Shuttle Astronaut of the STS-113
Endeavour, John Herrington.

This two-day event at SMO includes hands-on science experiments, weather balloon and rocket launches,
multiple opportunities to meet NASA astronaut John Harrington, live shows and additional activities with the
USAF, Piedmont Rocketry Club, Astronomy Club and the OMN Science Matters Mobile Museum.

Oklahoma native, NASA Astronaut and SMO board member, John Herrington, will give special presentations
in the Science Live Auditorium on Friday at 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Astronaut Herrington flew on STS-113, logging over 330 hours in space, including 3 EVAs totaling 19 hours
and 55 minutes.

The “Project OTTO” weather balloon will be launched into Earth’s troposphere by museum staff and guests on
Friday at 10:00 a.m. The launch pad will be located outside, near SMO’s East entrance. SMO plans to record
“Project OTTO’s” journey by enclosing two camera devices with an Otto mascot inside the weather balloon,
with hopes of sharing the collected footage with museum guests.

“Over 4900 Oklahoma students are scheduled to attend Space Day on Friday, thanks, in part, because of a
generous sponsorship from Boeing,” said Darren Ransley, Director of Creativity and Experience, SMO.
“Because of Boeing’s support, SMO will be able to educate and entertain nearly double the amount of guests
from 2011’s Space Day.”

“Saturday’s Space Day activities will enable families to talk to experts in the aerospace fields as well as
experience hands on science through space-related experiments,” said Jenn Tylbon, Chaos Coordinator, SMO.
“Sharing the wonder of space exploration isn’t just for school kids. As a museum we strive to inspire kids of all
ages, even the grown up ones,”

Science Museum Oklahoma’s Space Day is sponsored in part by Boeing, the Oklahoma Museum Network and
Allied Arts. Through their generous sponsorships, nearly 5,000 grade school children are able to participate in
Friday’s events.
