Eastland Career Center Students At The Ohio State Fair
GROVEPORT, OHIO – On July 27, 2012, four Eastland Career Center Culinary Students
participated in the FCCLA “Beef Wars” cooking challenge sponsored by The Ohio Beef
Association. The Ohio Beef Association furnished each student from around Ohio with one
pound of sirloin. The students had to prepare the beef along with two appropriate
accompaniments and present it to a panel of three judges. The winners of the event were
Eastland’s Jordan Lane (Liberty Union) and Adrienne Hennerfeind (Pickerington North), both
from the class of 2013. Each student received an OSF gold medal, a trophy, and $100 U.S.
Jordan and Adrienne’s winning menu was:

Brittany Edwards (Canal Winchester, class of 2013) participated in the
FCCLA Cupcake Wars at the Ohio State Fair with her Lime Cupcakes
with Fresh Strawberry and Cream Cheese Icing.
Taking first place in her category, Brittany received
a gold OSF medal, trophy, and a $100 U.S. savings bond.
Also present at the fair were two teams of students giving a cooking demonstration on July 27
and July 30, 2012.

The students gave a cooking demonstration on the techniques and production of a variety of
pasta dough made from scratch and, cooking that pasta and serving it up in our signature
Marinara & Alfredo sauces.
They also demonstrated and prepared pizza dough from scratch and made an assortment of
personal sized flat bread pizzas for the audience to sample.
Students in the Culinary Arts program gain hands-on experience in a variety of methods for
preparing creative dishes. Successful students are eligible for college scholarships and credits
through affiliation with the national ProStart program, allowing students to get a head start in
this field. Students also compete in local, state, and national competitions as a part of our
Culinary Arts and management teams.
