REQUIRED HEALTH TESTS
OHIO FALL SALE

TO: Consignors to the 2012 Ohio Fall Production Sale
Saturday, October 20, 2012 – Wayne County Fairgrounds, Wooster, OH 44691
As sale time approaches, we hope all is proceeding well for you and your
consignment(s). DO WE HAVE ALL OF YOUR UPDATES?
1. BRUCELLOSIS: Each animal must have a negative Brucellosis test, conducted within 30
days of the sale. Official calfhood vaccinates under 6 months of age, as of sale day need not
be tested; however, their vaccination tattoo must be legible and listed on the health
certificate. Send the calfhood vaccination certificate if available. With the introduction of
the “R” vaccine, any vaccinated animal will never show positive, regardless of how close
the test is run from the vaccination date.
2. TUBERCULOSIS: Each animal must have a negative T.B. test conducted within 30 days
of the sale. This is a requirement even if you are a certified Free State or a Certified Free
3. BVD-PI: Each animal must have documentation of a negative Antigen Detection test for
BVD-PI (e.g., Ear notch, or Elisa). This test can take one week.
4. MILKING COWS ONLY: Each lactating cow must have a negative composite milk culture
for Staph aureus and Mycoplasma Species. If your consignment is dry or too fresh at sale
time you will not need to test her. This test takes approximately 10 days.
5. REQUIRED SHOTS: All animals must have proof of (listed on health chart) shipping fever
booster no less than 10 days prior to sale and not more than 60 days prior to date of sale. A
9-way shot is highly recommended.
6. HEALTH CERTIFICATE: If you are consigning multiple animals you may list them all on
the same health chart. Please put animal’s TATTOO or the HERD MANAGEMENT
NUMBER from tamperproof American ID tag on health certificate. WE MUST RECEIVE
THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE AND A COPY OF THE TB TEST CHART TO BE
ELGIBLE TO ENTER CERTAIN STATES.
PRODUCTION TRANSFERS: We can't emphasize this point enough. Consignors of milking
animals must send production transfers with their consignments. The buyer of your
consignment needs this information!
REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES: Send the registration certificate with a signed transfer on
the reverse side with your animal. Be sure to fill in accurate service information.
NOTICE TO CONSIGNORS: All consignors will be paid upon the completion of all
necessary clerking and accounting procedures.
PREPARATION FOR SALE: Any efforts you can make in preparing your consignment before
she leaves the farm will go a long way in making sure she's at her best on sale day. Hoof
trimming is highly recommended.
DELIVERY TO WOOSTER: JMS will be ready to receive animals after 12:00 Noon on
Tuesday, October 16th. All consignments need to be in Wooster by noon, Wednesday, October
TRUCKING: If you need assistance with trucking your animals, please contact JMS at least 3
weeks prior to the sale.
CATALOGS: If you have names of potential buyers who need to receive catalogs, please get us
names and addresses. You need to do all you can to promote your animal.
