Hello SWEET Contacts, September 6, 2007
I hope all is well with all of you.
My thanks to all who responded to the survey regarding the upcoming SWEET workshops in
October and November. An agenda has been developed and workshop and field trip locations
have been secured.
I appreciate the help from the hosting counties in obtaining meeting space and from Ohio EPA’s
Division of Drinking and Ground Waters (DDAGW) in coordinating field trips to public water
systems. We chose workshop locations based on local ground water treatment facilities so that
we can offer a tour of a facility as part of each workshop experience.
Following is a rough agenda for each workshop:
9:30 Welcome and introductions
9:45 Sensitive Aquifers - Chris Kenah, Ohio EPA DDAGW (will include information on arsenic
in ground water, local issues, septic systems, ground water rules, and more)
11:00 SWEET Sharing – Five minutes for each SWEET to showcase success stories, and
share information on resources, handouts, activities, graphics, etc. that have enhanced
your programs. Discussion could also include tips for working with adult and youth
audiences, reaching out to nontraditional groups or organizations with source water
education, and questions you may have on technical issues or on using the model.
Please make copies of any handouts for each participant (20 should be enough).
11:45 Untapped Partnerships – The Secrets to Working with Public Water Systems – Barb
Lubberger, Ohio EPA Central Office, and Ohio EPA District Office Staff
12:15 Brown Bag Lunch – please bring a lunch and drink – except for the workshop that will be
held in St. Clairsville. That workshop will be held in a restaurant meeting room and we
will be eating their buffet lunch – cost will be about $10 per person which includes tax
1:00 Travel to water treatment plant.
1:30 Tour of water treatment plant.
3:00 Workshop will adjourn.
We hope that at least one member from each SWEET will be able to attend a workshop.
You do not need to bring your ground water simulators this time, but we will have
one set up and operating to refer to as needed.
A registration form is attached and should be returned no later than October 12.
