Martha Urban told the committee they can watch the Trustland training video at Schoollandtrust.org. All committee members need to view the video on their own. Compliance of council member balance: Three parents put their names in the box provided at Parent Teacher Conferences. The community members on the council decided to ask Teresa Larson if she would fill the vacant community position of Suann Adams. She was chosen because she lives in a different area than the other community members, and she already volunteers at the school. Martha Urban will contact Teresa to see if she will fill the position. Review of CRT (Criterion-Referenced Test) and DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) results – Mr. Rhees presented the information from the Math CRT and the DIBELS. Math – May 2010 CRT Math-May 2011 CRT Substantial 49% 54% 5% migration to the better. From 2010 to Sufficient 25% 20% 2011. Partial 14% 15% Minimal 12% 11% DIBELS – The pattern from the DIBELS Composite scores were: K-5 2% - 12% increase in scores per grade level 6th grade – 4% decrease in score. This could be because the students in 6th grade hit a ceiling and cannot go further than the test will allow. Mr. Rhees presented the final report for the 2010-11 Trustlands Budget that will be submitted to the state. The Council approved the report. Discussion of ways to use money from planned items that have changed for 2011-12. Technology maintenance- LED bulbs are starting to go out; the cost for one bulb is over $200.00. There is also software that teachers could use in the classroom with the technology such as Calendar Math. Money needs to be set aside to keep the new technology in the building in working order. SRA – Joliane Garner, a third grade teacher, presented her information on the SRA reading program that could replace the Accelerated Reading program. She reported that this program would put leveled readers in the classroom that would benefit the struggling readers. The program has stories the student reads and then activities that need to be completed that goes along with the story such as; comprehension questions, word study, dictionary practice, etc. Students read the story and complete the activities and then turn in the work to the teacher. After the student has read ten stories they receive a reward. Each students reads on their own reading level. Jolaine has approached the Weber School District Foundation, asking for help purchasing a kit for third grade. That request is still pending. Ideally she would like a kit for each of the four third grade classrooms but would be happy to start with one to share. If this worked well in third grade, other grades could adopt the program as well. Each kit costs about $858.00. Four Square Writing – Money was taken out of professional development funds in the Trustlands budget to pay for Teacher manuals for Four Square Writing. Mr. Rhees is recommending that more money be set aside to have teachers observe other great teachers with writing and other Common Core curriculum. UDOT grant money – Cindy Smoot is working on the money from the UDOT grant. It has been suggested that some of the money could be used to purchase soccer nets for recess. The City of North Ogden is considering putting up soccer goals in the park, the school could purchase the nets to be used at recess. There was discussion about the school website and how the Community Council activities could be posted on it. It has been decided that the Trustland documents will not be posted there but a link to the state office will posted. Community members can go to the state web site to access that document. The minutes from Community Council meetings will be posted after they have been approved by the council. They will also be passed to the faculty at that time. Members of the council are asked to write down the hours they are here for meetings on the volunteer sheets hanging in the school. Next meeting will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 3:45 p.m. in the North Ogden Elementary Conference Room. Motion to adjourn was made by Lori Petersen and Nicole Hepler seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
