Board of Directors - Legal Counsel
Volunteer Position Description
Title: Board of Directors Member - Legal Counsel
Reports to: Board of Directors and President
Attend monthly Board meetings and Executive Sessions, semi-annual retreats and
committee meetings as needed
Advise the Board on statutory requirements of Board service especially on the legal and fiscal
Advise and monitor legal requirements of all operations of PIRI including compliance with state,
IRS and other government agencies.
Advise and monitor legal requirements of PIRI’s new projects and initiatives.
Oversee legal compliance of overall operation of PIRI
Evaluate the recommendations of all committee’s and advise if these meet legal
Provide advice and resources to the board on topics such as governance issues,
amendments to the state laws, and the like, that will assist them in fulfilling their
JD degree & New York State license
High interest and energy to support PIRI’s mission
Time to commit to the Board work and committee work
Ability to collaborate and to provide leadership and oversight
Experience in non profit work desirable
Ability to develop networking
Creative ideas and strategic planning
Able to embrace challenge
Term of office
The term of office will begin when a candidate has been selected and voted onto the Board by the
Board of Directors. The term of office is for two years and can be renewed.
Estimated volunteer hours per month: 15
