Federal Census Survey Cards
Federal Census Survey Cards were sent home today. These census cards are very important
because the Federal Government pays the State of Hawaii and other mainland school districts for
part of the cost of educating children who live on or whose parent(s) is employed on federal
property. Under P.L. 81-874, these funds compensate our State for local tax losses resulting
from tax-free federal installations.
In addition, the Joint Ventures Education Forum (JVEF) funds may be given to military-
impacted schools based upon the number of Federal Census Survey Cards turned in at each
school. In past years, Nimitz Elementary School was given:
- $33,000.00 used to purchase a mobile computer lab that students use in their
classroom;
- $50,000.00 used to purchase workbooks and ancillary materials to supplement our
reading and mathematics textbook series.
Therefore, please take the time to completely fill out the Federal Census Survey Card, sign the
card, and return the card to your child(ren)’s teacher. All information that you provide on the
card will be kept confidential and will be destroyed following the federal audit.
Help us take advantage of the Federal Impact Aid that we are entitled to and help Nimitz
Elementary School receive more Joint Venture Education Forum funding.
