The Legislation Project 1) There will be ten groups and each group will select two of the following groups of legislation: A) The Clean Air Act of 1963, 1965, 1970, 1977, 1990 (CAA) B) The Clean Water Act 1977, 1981, 1987 (CWA) C) The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, 1984, and 1996 (SDWA) D) Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, 1986, 1990 (CERCLA or Superfund) E) The Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA) F) Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of 1973 (CITES) G) Lacey Act of 1900 H) The Endangered Species Act 1973, 1982, 1985, 1988 (ESA) I) The Emergency Planning & Community Right-To-Know Act (EPCRA) J) The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) K) Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act 1938, 1954, 1958 (FFDCA) L) Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act 1972, 1988 (FIFRA) M) Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 (FQPA) N) Convention of Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol of 1997 O) Convention of Ozone Depletion and the Montreal Protocol of 1986 P) National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) Q) Declaration of the Conference on the Human Environment of 1972 (Stockholm Declaration) R) Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 (or Law of the Sea Convention, LOSC) S) The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA) T) The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 and 1989 (RCRA) U) Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 2) Research the laws and/or treaties assigned in your group and create a PowerPoint presentation of no more than two to three slides that summarizes: A) Name, Draft Year, Amendment Years, International or National B) Description of Function; Environmental Issues Affected C) Agency/Group Responsible for Regulation and Enforcement (i.e. United Nations, Department of Interior, EPA, etc.) Include a few images for aesthetics and effect (not huge ones though). You will also need to make a hard copy to turn. Download the Environmental Legislation Spreadsheet , and fill it in using the other PowerPoint presentations by the student’s presentations.
