ARTWORK DESIGN SPECIFICATION
You should write up a separate document for each major piece of artwork you need redesigned.
You can group all the minor, smaller changes together in a document called miscellaneous .

This section should provide information to help the designer understand your overall vision for your new logo
1. Target Audience (Sex / Age / Nationality of customers. Also include what response the artwork
is trying to invoke)
2. Artwork to be replaced Include link(s) to the artwork on your theme to be replaced
3. Artwork Objective what is the purpose of the image? Eg. to inspire people to be healthy or look
good, to draw attention to a sale or promotion etc
4. Contextual Information Include the link to your new website so they the designer can see how
the logo will be viewed as part of overall web design
5. Sample Images Include links sample images you like that may indicate to the designer what
you are looking for (if any)
This section should outline what you want from the individual components of the image.
It is recommended that you try to maintain the integrity (composition, colour scheme, font type, font
positioning) of the sample images that came with your website template as much as possible
It is also recommended that you provide a sample image identifying and labeling the individual components of
a base image the artist can use as a reference
Sample Image Include a link to an image with the different sections labeled so the designer knows what you
are talking about

Detailed Description Explain what you want for each component of the image in as much detail possible
Would you like to see alternative ideas based on the designers own creative initiative
Note to designer: Please match the exact specification of the image to be replaced (image title,
dimension, format etc).
It should be possible to swap your deliverable for the placeholder image without making any
modifications to the image or website template
Please also include the original .psd file along with any fonts used in creating the image(s)
Link to placeholder image that will be replaced (Identifying the exact location of an image on the web is
explained in an earlier article ‘Updating the themes images - Things to consider’)
Alternatively, provide the exact dimensions of the image you require – as well as your required format (Eg jpeg, png)
This section should outline any additional suggestions or instructions you wish to provide to the designer.
Eg. You can request to see a number of roughwork samples or grant the designer creative license to do
something outside the scope of the this specification
