JOB DESCRIPTION FOR : NURSE PRACTITIONER III
STATE TITLE: NURSE PRACTITIONER III
CLASS CODE/PS GROUP: 6627 PAYGRADE:
The Nurse Practitioner III provides nursing care to patients and families in a variety of
settings, including medical institutions and homes. The service provided by the NP is
directed toward the delivery of primary, acute, or chronic care which focuses on the
achievement, maintenance, or restoration of optimal functions in the population. The NP
engages in independent decision making about the nursing care needs of clients and
collaborates with health professionals and others in making decisions about other health
care needs. The practitioner plans and institutes health care programs as a member of the
health care team.
The NP III practices within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas, the
American Nurses Association Code of Nurses, and hospital policies and procedures,
adheres to department and unit standards of care, and understands the legal consequences
of and is accountable for his/her nursing interventions. Harmonious relationships among
the members of the health care team and a positive image of University Hospital are
promoted by the NP III.
May have prescriptive authority.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
Certified by an approved certification body specialty as a nurse practitioner (APN-NP),
Masters degree in nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program as an Advance
Practice Nurse by the State of Arkansas and 3 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
