CFUW GENERAL OPEN MEETING

7:15 Call to order
Motion No. 1: Moved by Chris Henderson. Seconded by Sandra McCormick.
THAT: the minutes of the General Meeting of April 24, 2012 be approved.
Motion No. 2: Moved by Isobel Boyle. Seconded by Carol Dilworth.
THAT: the Agenda for the September 25, 2012 General Meeting be approved.
Welcome. President Teresa McKeeman welcomed new and returning members and guests.
This meeting is an open meeting at which guests are welcome; the next open meeting will be
in January. Guests considering membership are welcome to attend two meetings before
deciding to take out membership.
The new meeting format was explained, and feedback requested.
Cheryl Ambrose was congratulated on having been invited to be the chair of the Ontario
Council of CFUW: Status of Women and Human Rights Standing Committee.
The Issues and Actions Committee met with MP Michael Chong to express their concerns about
Bill C38. He wrote to say that he shared their concerns about this Bill and about the proposed
Special Committee Reports:
1: Fall Gathering: June Ayrhart
The 2012 CFUW Ontario West Regional Fall Gathering, Inspiring Growth: imagination, innovation and
i-clouds will be held at Cutten Field on October 27. Attendance is open to all members. The brochure
and registration forms are available on the CFUW Guelph website. The theme of the meeting is
Looking towards the Future.
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation
The business meeting paused for the presentation of the Queen`s Jubilee Diamond Medal to Mary
McEwan by MP Elizabeth Sandals. MP Sandals cited Mary as a “cheerful tireless volunteer”,
mentioning among other things her work in CFUW on violence against women, the Guelph Reflection
Garden, the December 6 Memorial Dinners, The Scientists in Schools program, and the Homewood
Centre. MP Sandals noted that her volunteer areas focused on the most vulnerable members of
society. Mary responded by thanking Ms. Sandals, the Governor General and the members of CFUW
who had provided encouragement.
It was also noted that a Queen`s Jubilee Medal had previously been presented in another venue to
CFUW member Pat McCraw.
2: Nominations Committee: Sandra McCormick
Motion No. 3: Moved by Sandra McCormick. Seconded by Cheryl Ambrose.
THAT: Heather Bailey be appointed as Vice President for 2012/13.
Unfinished Business: Teresa McKeeman
1. National AGM Highlights
The meeting was attended by Teresa McKeeman and Cheryl Ambrose.
1. New constitution and by-laws were presented and accepted
2. Fee Increase of $10 approved for the 2013/14 membership year.
3. Resolutions adopted
1. Retention and Promotion of Women in Skilled Trades and Non-Traditional
2. Climate Change: Mitigation, Adaptation and the Inclusion of Women
3. Toward a Mental Health Strategy for Canada
4. Full Accessibility and Barrier-Free Environments for Persons with Disabilities

2. Habitat Women Build Adopt-A-Day –

THAT: the club make up any difference between the donations of individual members and
the $1500 fee for the Adopt-A-Day sponsorship.

CFUW Purpose Review Committee (after Fall Gathering)
Project Proposal Review Committee
New policy: Only CFUW events will be made at meetings. Members are invited to bring notices to be
placed on the information table or to make submissions to the newsletter for events related to the
purposes of CFUW.
International Day of the Girl Child October 1. A meeting to discuss our participation in the
day was organized by Cheryl Ambrose and Teresa McKeeman at the Guelph Public Library
on Thursday September 27.
Fall Gathering October 27th
A letter has been sent to MPP Elizabeth Sandals on the subject of our support for the retention
of the Gun Registry.
