BP

Nature of Business Our business is the exploration, production, refining, marketing, trading and
Key Functions distribution of energy, and we do it on a global scale. We currently own or part-own

run a fleet of more than 70 ships. We produce over 3.5 million barrels of oil
equivalent per day and have revenues of around $300 billion a year.

FINAL YEAR AND We recruit into three key disciplines – Engineering, Science or Business.
ITNERNSHIP
OPPORTUNITIES Within each of these, there is a wide range of opportunities - from chemical
engineering to geoscience, chemistry to finance, trading to drilling and completions
engineering. Whether you’re based in Exploration & Production, Refining &
Marketing, or within our corporate team, you will find the same support and
encouragement to achieve new professional heights – and beyond.

The formal training programme is dependent on the specific area of business in
which the graduate employee is based, mainly across three core activities: Upstream
Refining & Marketing, and Integrated Supply & Trading (IST). Each of these
business areas employs a mix of graduates and professionals from the Business,
Engineering and Science streams. The content and structure of the main training
                     programmes is provided below.

Upstream and Refining & Marketing: A 2-3-year programme known as ‘Challenge’,
consisting of placements on the technical and business side with the help of a
dedicated buddy and mentor. A highly structured programme offering real
professional roles in which you will develop your technical expertise. Training and
other opportunities to develop competencies within your disciplines and the
opportunity to learn from and network with a group of peers and more experienced
                     BP colleagues.

                     Internship Programme
Summer vacation placements and 12-month industrial training programmes are
offered in Business, Engineering and Science. The company takes on around 130
interns each year, for summer placements of 11 weeks duration and year-long
industrial training schemes. At the beginning of each programme, a detailed set of
programme objectives and expectations is finalised in discussion with the line
manager and these are frequently revisited through a formal performance appraisal
process. Apart from the line manager, each intern is also assigned an exclusive
mentor for providing additional guidance and support when necessary.
