Health and Safety Terms and Conditions– Face Painting

Funny Faces takes Health and Safety issues very seriously and as such requires that all
our services and activities are delivered in a safe environment, by skilled and experienced
staff, using professional methods and products. In this way both our staff and clients will be
able to enjoy the events to the maximum, and risk of accidents and/or injury will be
minimised.

1.Products

Funny Faces uses only professional, water based products which are formulated to EU
regulations. They are made by the ‘Snazaroo’ company, and are

We give the following advice to event and party organisers, and those being painted:-
All face paints, glitters, and glitter dusts, and should be removed with normal soap and
water. It is recommended that face paints are removed after 2 or 3 hours, and children
should NEVER be allowed to go to bed without removing the face paint. Some colours may
leave slight colouring of the skin longer than others, but this is entirely normal and will
quickly fade.
We will make every effort to protect fabrics and clothing, but will not be liable or responsible
for any damage to a person’s clothing or property at any time.
(If paint gets on fabrics, or clothing it is best to rub stain with soap, and soak overnight in a
‘Biotex’ type product, before washing according to manufacturer’s instructions).

3.Methods
Funny Faces expects the event or party organiser to provide a safe environment in which
to work. For outdoor events, the organisers must provide safe, and acceptable shelter
and/or protection from the elements (wind, rain, direct sun etc). We will make every effort to
maintain our own equipment, and immediate painting area safe and hazard free at all
times, but will not be held liable or responsible for any accidents or damage caused by
others attending the venue or event (a separate Risk Assessment is available to all event
and party organisers on request). At no time will we be responsible for overall supervision
of queues waiting to be painted, or other children, young people, or adults attending the
venue/event/party and organisers must therefore arrange an adequate number of
responsible adults to be present to ensure appropriate levels of supervision. Organisers
must ensure access to fresh cold water, and toilet facilities. Face and body painting will be
carried out in accordance with the following guidelines:-
   • At public events/venues no unaccompanied child under the age of 16 years will be
painted (for private parties or organised corporate events see below).
   • No child under the age of three years will be painted.
   • We reserve the right to refuse to paint any child displaying signs of infection, or
illness that may present a risk to others or increase the likelihood of a reaction to the
products being used e.g. skin conditions such as impetigo or eczema, nasal
       discharge, head lice etc.
   • Without prejudice, we reserve the right to refuse to paint (or stop painting) any child
or young person that does not want to be painted, or who displays behaviour that
may endanger himself, or others around.
   • Without prejudice, we reserve the right to refuse to paint any design or symbol that
may be considered offensive to others.
   • It remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian/carer who is accompanying the
child or young person, or the private party organiser to inform the face painter of any
reason or condition that may prevent that person from being painted e.g. sensitive
skin, allergies, or behavioural difficulties. If a child or young person wishes to be
painted for the first time, a ‘full face’ will not be done, but a small test design will be
offered. We will not be held liable or responsible for any reactions to our paints or
       equipment at any time.
   • In the case of private parties, and corporate events it remains the responsibility of
the organiser to ensure all children and young people attending have permission to
be painted if they so wish.
   • It is the responsibility of the event or party organiser to ensure the overall safety of
the venue (indoor or outdoor) i.e that it complies with all current legislation with
regards to Health and Safety, Fire Regulations, and the Disability Discrimination Act.
   • We will not be held liable or responsible for any accident, injury or damage caused
by unsafe behaviour, or inappropriate use of products, materials, or equipment by
       any individual.
   • We aim to be as inclusive as possible whilst maintaining the safety of each person
being painted, our staff, and all others in the area. Without prejudice, if we consider
‘full face paint’ is not appropriate for a particular person we will try to offer a safe
alternative e.g. hand, or arm design.
   • A clean sponge is used on each person being painted. All sponges are cleaned and
sterilised before being re-used. All brushes are rinsed thoroughly before each
       person being painted.
   • Fresh water is used for each person being painted.

   • In order to reduce risks of infection, each person being painted should present a
clean face/area to be painted. Any dirt/food debris will need to be removed prior to
painting, and we will offer clean paper towels and fresh water to the accompanying
adults in order for this to be done.
   • We will maintain a professional attitude at all times, and ensure we always remain
sensitive to each person’s individual needs.
   • In order to maintain high standards of health and safety we will not allow any other
person to use or apply our equipment or products.
