                              ABSTRACT
Although we have seen tremendous progress in microelectronics in the
last 20 years in the semiconductor industry, the impact of micro and
nanofabrication techniques is just beginning to emerge in biotechnology.
 I'll talk about the role I played in the initial efforts to bring micro and
nanofabrication into biology, including some companies that were
created, and try to guess where the future will lead. We may see an equal
revolution occuring in biotechnology as has happened in consumer
electronics.
