Expanded Statement of Institutional Purpose Linkage:
Institutional Mission Reference: The University of South Florida is a multi-campus national research
university that supports the development of the metropolitan Tampa Bay Region, Florida, the United States and the
world. The university is dedicated to excellence in teaching and lifelong learning in a student-centered environment.

College/University Goal(s) Supported: its teaching, research and service, the College of Education will
promote the advancement of its students, programs and service to area school systems. The school will provide
graduate programs to ensure the professional development of pre-service and in-service teachers. Students in the
School of Education will be able to implement recent research strategies in educational theory and curriculum in area
school systems by exhibiting best practices in all disciplines and meeting the criteria demonstrating the best-
accomplished practices.

         1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of English content and
         instruction.

 Criteria for Success:
  Students will successfully complete a variety of academic assignments in their required program
 courses that assess their content knowledge in English.



 Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
 Students demonstrate this content knowledge on their comprehensive examinations.



 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:

 Faculty review the written comprehensive examinations to determine how well the students
 demonstrate content knowledge. Because all of the students passed their examinations, it was
 determined that they had mastered this area of their program.

 Students will develop lessons and use them in a classroom situation with reflections on the
 success of student learning.

 Students demonstrate their knowledge of best practices in reading and literature on their
 comprehensive examinations.



 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
 Faculty review the written comprehensive examinations to determine how well the students
 demonstrate their knowledge of best practices in reading and literature. Because all of the
