Request for Qualifications Bishop Arts District Budget: 49,600 Submission Deadline: 10/30/2007 Background Located in historic Oak Cliff the Bishop Arts District is fast becoming one of Dallas’s creative hot spots. In the early 1930s the district was one of the city’s busiest trolley stops; today you’ll find artist studios, art galleries, fine dining and small retail shops. The small seating area where Bishop Street terminates into Davis Street has been identified as the preferred location for public art in the Bishop Arts District. The artwork will become a landmark identifying the northern entrance to the district. Two 16’ sections of the original 1903 streetcar tracks are available for possible incorporation into the public art if the selected artist wishes to use them. We are seeking innovative artwork that will show off the modern and sophisticated attitude of this community without losing sight of its rich history. Time Line Deadline for artist submissions Artist short listed and interviewed Artist contracted and begins project October, 30 2007 November – December 2007 March 2008 Selection Process A panel of arts professionals and community representatives will review each submittal and short-list no more than three artists.
