TEST ASSEMBLY SPECIALIST
The Test Assembly Specialist serves primarily as liaison between the Automated Test Assembly
(ATA) Workgroup and users in the Test Development and Psychometrics Departments. S/he is expected
to acquire a sound working knowledge of how ATA functions, and provide hands-on expertise to
examination editors and psychometricians in setting up constraints and item pools. The Test Assembly
Coordinator also has a role in consulting with and assisting the Business Systems Analysts of both
departments on broader issues, related to the development of examinations. The Test Assembly
Coordinator reports to the Director of Psychometric Operations Research.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Provide user training and hands-on assistance in the application of ATA.
    Ensure that all inputs to test assemblies are correct and schedules are met.
    Consult with editors and psychometricians on how to improve the quality of their item pools for
      better test assemblies.
    Work closely with the ATA Workgroup (as a member) to understand the logic of the
      optimization routines currently being used and how to execute the process.
    Construct ATA schedules that synchronize with the computer-based testing production group’s
      schedules for meeting vendor deadlines.
    Meet regularly with and assist the business system analysts of both departments in improving
      the overall quality of operations in examination development.
    Report on the quality of item pools and test assemblies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
   Rudimentary understanding of how optimization heuristics and linear programming techniques
    work.
   Rudimentary understanding of how examination tables of content specifications (“blueprints”)
    work.
   Rudimentary understanding of assessment concepts is desirable.
   Strong interpersonal and communication skills
   Strong problem solving skills
   Understanding of basic project management techniques
   Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (mainly Access and Excel)
   Computer programming skills are desirable

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years professional experience required. Mathematics,
measurement and/or medical background preferred.
