7/27/2011
High School Music Room
Attendees: Lee Ann Rask, John Goodman, Jane Stuart, Katie Lutes, David Arlen, Justin Carabello,
Emily Carabello, Tom Sherwood, Tamera Sherwood, Kristen Budzynsk, Keli Goodman, Allison Pico.
Greeting: Lee Ann Rask greeted attendees and opened the meeting in prayer.
Old Business:
FAB Officer positions have been filled for 2011-2012. List Following.
No treasury report was given.
New Business:
Ice Cream Social- Justin discussed idea to present Carabello Coffee sample with magnet to the
th
families attending the Ice Cream Social on August 19 at 6 pm. This would serve as an
introduction of Carabello Coffee and FAB to those in attendance at Ice Cream Social. Carabello
Coffee contributed $618 to FAB in just 3 months last year with only 20 families participating. The
cost for the coffee sample and magnet was estimated to be around $2.50 per item, with a goal of
around 100 samples to be handed out. A motion was passed that this was an investment worth
making with potential to access many more families that might order Carabello Coffee and join in
FAB efforts for the school year.
o Next Steps: 1.) Justin will get final $ amounts and handle ordering of magnets and
samples. 2.) Justin and Misty will finalize details 3.) All members of FAB will help in
promoting this event to make a success.
FAB Spirit Wear- Lee Ann presented the joint venture with Athletic Boosters for the Tim Barker
Spirit Shop to open in the former Tim Barker Hospitality Room. This Spirit Shop will be a joint
venture with the Athletic Boosters, with Jody Hilsher, MVCA Athletic Director, being the MVCA
point person. FAB Team Lead is Maggie Parker. Other team members (to be confirmed by
Maggie) are: Brad Parker, Christy Collet, and Sandy Moreland. Initial order of joint items has
been discussed and the likely cost to FAB for this initial order should be around $1000 with 30
th
days to pay. Shop should be open for business on August 11 for New Family orientation. Other
issues such as dealing with Athletic Boosters current inventory still are under discussion and will
be presented at a later meeting. It was decided that the Spirit Shop idea would move forward as
described. Some questions still need to be answered. A suggestion was made that uniform
sweatshirt embroidery be left up to parents and we ask local shop, such as EmbroidMe, to
provide discount coupons to be included with sweatshirts.
o Next Steps: 1.) Lee Ann and Maggie will work with leadership on Athletic Boosters side
and Jody Hilsher and Shawn Baker to decide some of the organizational details. 2.) A
monthly accounting will be given at each FAB meeting re: expenses and revenue 3.) the
FAB spiritwear team will meet separately to discuss spiritwear ideas.

FAB Membership- Lee Ann proposed an idea regarding membership to FAB in exchange for
exclusive FAB items and perks. It was agreed by those in attendance that charging a
membership fee or membership dues is in contradiction to the current bylaws. It was suggested
that FAB instead might offer sponsorship levels that would allow for exclusive FAB items and FAB
perks. The membership proposal is attached.
o Next Steps: Kristin Budzynski agreed to put together committee to look at idea and come
up with proposal of levels and what FAB could offer for each level of sponsorship. It was
agreed that this would tie in nicely with the current Giving Tree, which hasn’t produced
much in the way of revenue for FAB.
Review of Fund Raising Calendar for 2011-2012- Katie Lutes presented the financial results
from selling concessions and items at Drama Camp’s performance of Beauty and the Beast. This
endeavor earned $283.00 with many concession supplies left over for future performances.
Other items on the Fund Raising Calendar currently include:
o Father/Daughter Dance- Spring 2012
o Mother/Daugher Tea- Spring 2012
o Spring Flower Sale- Spring 2012
o Carabello Coffee- ongoing year round
Fall Fundraising Idea -It was presented that a fall fundraiser is needed and a talent show was
proposed. It was agreed that this idea was worth pursuing.
o Next steps: Justin and Emily Carabello agreed to put together a team to flesh out this
idea and start promoting this event. First order of business is to secure a date. It was
suggested to somehow tie it in with Spirit Weekl
TerraCycle- John Goodman described TerraCycle. Terracycle is a unique way to generate
revenue through the recycling of certain items and sending them to TerraCycle. Due to the
logisitics of collection and other issues, it was decided that FAB could try this out as a fundraiser
first with FAB members collecting items and bringing them to FAB meetings to be recycled
through TerraCycle.
o Next Steps: Distribute list at FAB meetings and ask members to bring in their items for
collection. John agreed to collect and handle the mailing of recycled items.
Other Business: Sandy Moreland suggested that FAB handle the purchase and sale of Band
books for students. It was agreed that even if this didn’t provide much in the way of revenue, it
was an easy service to provide for parents and something that FAB would like to take on. In
addition it was discussed potentially offering other band items (reeds, etc.) for students that don’t
have the proper supplies.
o Next steps: Lee Ann will discuss with Justin Carabello what books need to be
purchased and review the cost of additional band items. Lee Ann will also provide this
information to MVCA offices to listed in Lions Lines and/or e-mail going out to band
families
Meeting was adjourned and all were offered the chance to take a tour of the Tim Barker Spirit
Shop and the progress that has been made there.
