					Kangaroo Care Method Part One
LBW often have problems during the first weeks of life such as the adaptation of
life outside the womb, and help to keep it warm enough milk HCWs should use
the troubleshooting steps as a guide to provide care during a visit LBW neonates.

In healthy LBW care must be given:
 Warming babies with PMK
 Early and exclusive breastfeeding
 Prevention of infection
 Immunization
 Monitoring the preparation of pre-alarm and referral if necessary

Kangaroo Care Method
How to care for the baby is naked (wearing only a diaper and cap) placed upright
/ vertical on the chest between the two breasts (mother bare chest) and then
covered.

PMK Definition: mother-infant skin contact (skin-to-skin-contact) lasted from
early, continuous and ongoing.
Kangaroo method first introduced by Rey and Martinez in Bogota, Colombia
(1979), and the response to the crisis increased the number of low birth weight,
lack of staff and facilities, excess patient and increased infections.

The principle method of Kangaroo Skin to skin contact can improve infant
survival, especially LBW and prematurity. This method mimics animal baby
kangaroos are usually immature and keep the baby in the mother's pouch to
prevent freezing.

PMK benefits for babies
- Stabilizing Climate: warm and warmth quickly babies can be maintained
(thermoregulation) ie 36.5 -37.5 C
- Stabilization of heart rate
- Stabilization breathing, breathing becomes irregular

When FMD can begin?
As soon as possible after the baby's condition is stable, the mother is willing and
understanding about the PMK.
FMD can be divided into 2: intermittent (do 1-2 hours a day) and continuous (24
hours).The role of the mother can be replaced others (in-laws, husband, aunt).
UNTIL WHEN?
do not want another baby (fussy, restless, constantly moving)
baby weight reached 2500 g or more
drinking (sucking) like a normal baby

* Coordination of sucking, swallowing and breathing well
PREPARATION MOM
Cutting nails and wash your hands before holding the baby

The baby is placed between the two mothers breast
Mother wore an open front
