“Lord of the Flies” We must prepare ourselves for the elements
by Iron Maiden I just want to feel like we're strong
We don't need a code of morality
I don't care for this world anymore
I just want to live my own fantasy I like all the mixed emotion and anger
Fate has brought us to these shores It brings out the animal the power you can feel
What was meant to be is now happening And feeling so high with this much adrenaline
Excited but scary to believe what we've become
I've found that I like this living in danger
Living on the edge it makes feel as one Saints and sinners
Who cares what's right or wrong, Something within us
it's reality We are lord of the flies
Killing so we survive
Wherever we may roam Saints and sinners
Wherever we may hide Something willing us
gotta get away! To be lord of the flies

I don't want existence to end

1. This song was based on the novel Lord of the Flies. What specific aspects of the novel and what
characters or group of characters do you think this song is about? Why?

2. The song says, “Fate has brought us to these shores, what was meant to be is now happening.” Do
you believe fate brought the boys to the island or was there some other reason they ended up there?

3. “Lord of the flies” is a translation of the word “Beelzebub” which is what Jesus calls Satan when He
is being tempted in the desert, so “lord of the flies” is something evil. Do you agree with the writer of
this song that there is “something within us” and “something willing us” to be evil or lord of the flies?
Why or why not?
“Believe" To keep on breathing for
by The Bravery So give me something to believe

The faces all around me they don't smile they just Something's always coming you can hear it in the
crack ground
Waiting for our ship to come but our ships not It swells into the air
coming back With the rising
We do our time like pennies in a jar Rising sound
What are we saving for And never comes but shakes the boards and rattles
                                                        all the doors
There's a smell of stale fear that's reeking from our What are we waiting for
skins.
The drinking never stops because the drinks absolve I am hiding from some beast
our sins But the beast was always here
We sit and grow our roots into the floor Watching without eyes
But what are we waiting for? Because the beast is just my fear
                                                        That I am just nothing
Now its just what I've become
So give me something to believe What am I waiting for
Cause I am living just to breathe Its already done
And I need something more
