Snoring

					                                                Snoring

Including Sleep Apnoea, Sleep Disturbance with Episodes of Snoring, Apnoea and Day
Time Hypersomnolence.

 If obvious tonsil or nasal pathology, refer to ENT
 If no pathology, trial of Xylometazoline drops or spray for 1 week

(Vasoconstrictor drops are of limited value as they can give rise to rebound congestion (rhinitis
medicamentosa) on withdrawal due to a secondary vasodilatation. This in turn tempts a further use of
the decongestant, leading to a vicious cycle of events. The more potent sympathomimetic drugs such
as xylometazoline are more likely to cause this effect. )

 If there is an improvement, REFER
 If no improvement, refer to sleep clinic if there is a concern about sleep apnoea
If there is no concern re apnoea, refer to dental hospital or private dentist for mandibular splint
