Eight major Chinese universities have entered Thailand’s Study Overseas market,
introducing their own international standard of teaching and post-graduate
opportunities to work in the USA and UK, with some institutions also offering cheaper
tuition fees than local HE institutions.
The programme is currently promoted by study overseas agents who also planning to
introduce this programme to neighbouring countries such as Laos and Cambodia.
Chanokphan Prachakul, senior counselling officer at the Studywitz Center, explained that
their agent was contacted by a Chinese educational agent to promote Chinese education in
Thailand and neighbouring countries.
The Chinese agent wanted to promote the programme in Thailand first because Chinese
institutions have limited seats for foreign students, so they prefer to offer this opportunity to
Thai students. It will also be offered in other countries, but applications will be limited once
quotas are reached.
There are eight Chinese universities participating in the programme, each charging low tuition
fees. All the institutions focus on Medicine because it is popular among Thai students as they
offer degree qualifications certified by the World Health Organisation, and tuition fees are
much lower than in Thailand.
