Week of: October 11

These are lesson PLANS and are not “set in stone”. Situations throughout the day often change the daily
plan. In any given lesson, there are always multiple standards being taught. Standards listed are the
ones being specifically targeted for that day or during the week.

Reading & Language Arts

No Shared Reading on Monday. This time is used to introduce concepts & skills we will work on this

Shared Reading - (All week)        Too Many Frogs        by Sandy Asher
Lesson 1
        Obj: To make predictions, interpret vocabulary correctly, and to distinguish between fiction/
        Std: RD2.0.7-DOK3, Students will make inference or draw conclusions based on what is read.
             RD2.0.4-DOK2, Students will interpret specialized vocabulary specific to the story.
             RD2.0.1-DOK2, Students will distinguish between fiction/non-fiction text.
        Voc: tree hollow, tidied, croaked, comfy-cozy, fuss, clutter, knockety
        Pro: Intro vocabulary. Read and discuss story. When reader gets to the part where rabbit
             decides something is missing, ask children, “What’s missing?” Have them tell the person
             next to them. Have students write/predict what will happen next? Read the rest of the
             story and check predictions.
        Eval: Oral responses, predictions (exits)

Lesson 2
        Obj: Students will illustrate key ideas in a passage.
        Std: RD2.0.3-DOK1, Locating key ideas or information in a passage
         Voc: See lesson 1
        Pro: Students will create a picture illustrating some part of the story. Use stickers & cutouts.
        Eval: Observation & product

Lesson 3
        Obj: To put story events in sequential order
        Std: RD2.0.5-DOK1, Correct sequence of story

        Pro: Students will put story events in correct order. Cut & paste.

Lesson 4
        Obj: To understand words can have prefixes or suffixes to help comprehension
        Std: RD1.0.4-DOK2, Apply the meaning of common prefixes or suffixes to comprehend
              unfamiliar words.
        Pro: Students will observe, then identify prefixes and suffixes that have been
              used in the story. (Teacher models by showing base word, then adds prefix/suffix).

Creative Writing
        Obj: For students to write about a familiar topic

Everyday Calendar Activities
       Obj: To recognize and learn days, months, year, date, and review misc. concepts

       Pro: Each day after the date is recorded, various skills and concepts are reviewed
            using the calendar, number line, and number grid.

Everyday Math Program
       Lesson 3-13, Data Day                    pp.247-249
               Obj: To introduce line plots
                Std: MA4.1.1-DOK3, Analyzing & making inferences from data displays
                     MA2.1.1-DOK1, Comparing & ordering amounts of money
                Vocab: line plot
                Pro: Students will tally how many siblings they have. Record answers on sticky-notes,
                     and use note to make a line plot. When lesson is complete, students play Dime-
                     Nickel-Penny. (Comparing whole numbers)

                Obj: To explore domino-dot patterns and to provide practice for basic addition facts

                Pro: Students will look for patterns in the representation of odd & even numbers on
                      dominoes. They use parts-and-total diagrams to find total number of dots.
