Perhaps some of your family members are not as motivated to make something out of their lives as you
are. It is frustrating when that family member is a child or grandchild who just cannot seem to do
anything with his or her life, who shows no desire to go to college and get a degree that can land them a
good job.

Forcing your child or grandchild to go to college is not an option. However, why not give him or her an
incentive to do so with an estate plan? There are several ways to do this. For example, you could create
a Trust that takes care of tuition, and reverts to another person if the child or grandchild does not enroll
in school. Alternatively, you could create a Trust that gives the child or grandchild an inheritance only if
he or she graduates.

There are many different incentives that you can give your family members in your estate plan. Children
and grandchildren who have no ambition are just the tip of the iceberg. Talk to an estate planning
attorney about other things you can do.
