“Perspectives on 2009”:
Guest Speaker: Mark Menary
Mark Menary is the Bank of England's Deputy Agent for Greater London, a role which he
started in November 2008. The role of the Bank's Agents is to liaise with the business
community in order to better understand trends in the UK economy and thus enhance the
Bank's interpretation of economic activity and trends. The information feeds directly in to
the Monetary Policy Committee, which sets UK interest rates.

Mark has been with the Bank of England since 1987. During his career to date he has
undertaken a number of different roles across the Bank's various functions. Most recently
he worked in the financial markets area for three years, including during the recent period
of turbulence across global financial markets, including managing the team responsible for
managing the Bank's credit risk. Prior to that he was the Bank's Deputy Agent for the
South East and East Anglia, a region spanning eight counties from Kent in the south to
Buckinghamshire in the west and as far north as Norfolk.

Mark lives in Kent and is married with two young children.


Guest Speaker: Nicos Nicolaou
Nicos Nicolaou is senior partner in the accounting firm Samson West and Christo, which
provides financial, accounting and audit services for a wide range of clients. Having
completed his initial training as a Chartered Accountant, he became a member of the
Chartered Institute of Tax.

He was Audit Manager and then a Partner at Langley Group LLP, an independent firm of
accountants, registered auditors and insolvency practitioners, where he had responsibility
for SME clients ranging from start ups to £40m turnover businesses. He left in 1999 to
establish Christo and acquired Sampson West in 2005.

He currently specialises in Tax planning and investigations, Corporate Financial Director
work and Mergers and Acquisitions.
Guest Speaker: Sue Firth
Sue Firth is a Business Psychologist who runs Whealth.com which specialises in coaching
Senior Executives to reduce Stress. She is a highly acclaimed international expert and
keynote speaker on Stress and Stress Management.

She aims to make a difference to the way people think and to teach them how to moderate
their own habits and attitudes to reduce any difficulties they have, whilst still maintaining
their effectiveness.

As a Psychologist Sue has developed a number of skills, principally, observation and
analysis of human behavioural patterns. Her style is both sensitive and down to earth. Her
refreshing approach and techniques are unsurpassed. Sue helps individuals and businesses
become more productive, purposeful, successful and profitable.

She has written a number of articles, as well as producing 3 c.d.'s on Stress, Self-esteem
and Assertiveness. She recently won a long-service award for 'delivering exceptional
value' as a speaker.
