OS Upgrade Project 2 Windows OS Upgrade Project Background Riordan Manufacturing Incorporated is leading the industry in the manufacturing of plastic injection molding. Employing 550 people, this plastics manufacturer earns over $46 million in revenue. With plants located in Georgia, Michigan, China and headquarters in San Jose, California, Riordan is able to produce plastic fan parts, beverage containers, and other custom plastic parts. The firm also enjoys contracts with such customers as the Department of Defense, automotive parts manufacturers, and aircraft manufacturers. Riordan continues to work towards meeting the customer needs by solving problems rather than creating them. The firm takes pride in “quality controls, innovative solutions, a responsive business attitude and reasonable pricing” for its customers (Apollo, 2006). Riordan believes in working as a team, and is extremely supportive of their employees. They hope to continue this sort of attitude to maintain good customer and employee morale, which will keep them as a leader in the industry. Statement of Need In order to maintain such high standards of excellence, Riordan must keep up with the growing technology that is developing in this world. Other companies are growing and could possibly surpass Riordan in communication and production if this issue is not handled soon. Headquarters is in the process now of upgrading all the computers and needs to upgrade the operating system. We will evaluate Windows Vista, Windows 2003 for the upgrade. We will also be comparing and contrasting Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Advanced server, and Windows Server 2004 in order to provide the best solution Riordan’s needs.
