Staff recommendation
The commission staff recommends that Harrison College – Columbus, Evansville, Indianapolis
Downtown, Indianapolis East, and Lafayette be granted the authority to award the Associate of
Science, Associate of Applied Science degree and the Bachelor of Science degree in the
following programs:


            Columbus:              BS – Business Management
                                   BS – Health Care Management
            Evansville:            AAS – Veterinary Technology
            Indianapolis Downtown: AS – Logistics
                                   BS – Fashion Merchandising
            Indianapolis East:     BS – Health Care Management
            Lafayette:             BS – Business Management
                                   BS – Health Care Management

Each degree program is intended to be offered as a residence, online, or in combination delivery
format.

Background
Harrison College is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Independent
Colleges and Schools (ACICS).

The Associate of Science Logistics degree program consists of 96 quarter-credit hours of training;
with more than 50% of the courses in the Specialty. The faculty includes one holding a
Bachelor’s degree and the remaining faculty members holding a Master’s degree or higher
degree.

The Associate of Applied Science Veterinary Technology degree program consists of 100
quarter-credit hours of training; with more than 75% of the courses in the Specialty. More than
half of the faculty hold a Master’s degree; the remaining faculty hold a Bachelor’s degree with
more than 5 years working experience in the Specialty.

The Business Management Bachelor of Science degree program consists of 180 quarter-credit
hours of training; with 63% of courses in the Specialty. The Columbus faculty includes two
holding a Bachelor’s degree; the remaining faculty holds a Master’s degree. The Lafayette
faculty includes one holding a Bachelor’s degree; the remaining faculty hold a Master’s degree.
The Fashion Merchandising Bachelor of Science degree program consists of 180 quarter-credit
hours of training; with 58% of courses in the Specialty. The faculty includes one holding a
Bachelor’s degree; the remaining faculty hold a Master’s degree or higher.

The Health Care Management Bachelor of Science degree program consists of 180 quarter-credit
hours of training; with 63% of the courses in the Specialty. The Columbus faculty includes one
holding a Diploma in Medical Assisting, one holding an Associates of Applied Science degree in
Medical Coding, one holding an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting, and
one holding an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. The remaining faculty hold a
Bachelor’s degree or higher. The Indianapolis East faculty includes one holding an Associate of
Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting, and two holding an Associate of Applied Science
degree in Surgical Technology. The remaining faculty hold Bachelor’s degree or higher. The
Lafayette faculty includes two holding an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical
Assisting, one holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership, one holding a
Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, and the remaining faculty holding a
Master’s degree.

I. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: Describe what the program is designed to achieve and
explain how it is structured in order to accomplish the objectives.

This program is designed to prepare students to enter into a career as a Veterinary Technician.
The Veterinary Technician typically will conduct clinical work in a private veterinary practice
under the supervision of a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine performing duties to include,
but not limited to, physical exams, nursing care, diagnostic laboratory tests and imaging,
surgical nursing, assisting and anesthetist, in patient care and treatment, dental prophylactic
cleaning and scaling, office management and client education. The curriculum will cover all
aspects of the veterinary technician profession from animal behavior to public health and
zoonoses. Upon Graduation the student will be prepared and eligible to take the Veterinary
Technician National Exam (VTNE) and State exam to become a Registered Veterinary
Technician (RVT).

Upon graduation a student will:
   1. Recognize and support the roles and responsibilities for each team member and
       effectively communicate with all members in a veterinary health care team.
   2. Provide industry standard veterinary services
   3. Adhere to the Veterinary Code of Ethics

       part time college work study students. We have in our budget plan to hire a full time
       librarian by July 2011.

       Harrison College employs a professionally trained librarian with a Master's degree in
       Library Sciences. This individual is employed at our Administration office located at 550
       E. Washington Street in Indianapolis. As the lead librarian for all Harrison College
       locations, this individual is charged with the responsibility of:


       a)       overseeing and assessing all existing physical and virtual library resources for all
       Harrison College campus locations;
       b)       oversight and management of all future acquisitions;
       c)       coordinating quarterly meetings with all Harrison College library personnel;
       d)       assist with the hiring and performance assessment of library personnel for all
       Harrison College locations; and
       e)       training for library personnel within the Indiana Harrison College system.


       Plans are in place to hire an individual with an M.L.S. degree to oversee the library
       resources at the Lafayette campus. Responsibilities for this individual include:


       a)       providing assistance to students and faculty of the Lafayette campus with library
       usage;
       b)       providing assistance to faculty of the Lafayette campus with instructional
       resources;
       c)       maintaining a system to document utilization of library resources;
       d)       working with faculty and the Dean to assist in the assessment of the adequacy of
       available resources, while gathering input from faculty regarding requests for future
       acquisitions to be considered; and
       e)       management of library holdings including, but not limited to, maintenance of
       system of classification, organization of holdings, tracking of inventory, etc.

      The Harrison College Learning Resource Centers hold 19,778 items, including 9911 e-
      books. Through a branch borrowing system, students have access to all these

       Harrison College employs a professionally trained librarian with a Master's degree in
       Library Sciences. This individual is employed at our Administration office located at 550
       E. Washington Street in Indianapolis. As the lead librarian for all Harrison College
       locations, this individual is charged with the responsibility of:


       a)       overseeing and assessing all existing physical and virtual library resources for all
       Harrison College campus locations;
       b)       oversight and management of all future acquisitions;
       c)       coordinating quarterly meetings with all Harrison College library personnel;
       d)       assist with the hiring and performance assessment of library personnel for all
       Harrison College locations; and
       e)       training for library personnel within the Indiana Harrison College system.


       Plans are in place to hire an individual with an M.L.S. degree to oversee the library
       resources at the Lafayette campus. Responsibilities for this individual include:


       a)       providing assistance to students and faculty of the Lafayette campus with library
       usage;
       b)       providing assistance to faculty of the Lafayette campus with instructional
       resources;
       c)       maintaining a system to document utilization of library resources;
       d)       working with faculty and the Dean to assist in the assessment of the adequacy of
       available resources, while gathering input from faculty regarding requests for future
       acquisitions to be considered; and
      e)     management of library holdings including, but not limited to, maintenance of
      system of classification, organization of holdings, tracking of inventory, etc.

This program provides students with a thourough understanding of theory and application
related to the advanced demand of planning and designing systems of movement for goods and
services. Students are able to collect and analyze data, identify alternative solutions and select
the most appropriate course of action for product and service delivery. Graduates of the
program are prepared to serve as supervisors, managers, analyst, logisticians, and other
leadership roles in the logistics industry.


Upon graduation a student will:
   1. Efficiently plan, organize, and design logistical support activities for the movement of
       goods and services
   2. Develop project management documents such as plans, schedules, and responsibility
       and compliance matrices
   3. Identify strategies for fostering relationships with external and internal stakeholders
       significant to logistic activities
   4. Continuously seek and learn innovative logistics advances to improve processes and
       delivery
   5. Adhere to local and international laws associated with logistic activities

       locate 1.8 miles from the campus. As a state supported institution their library collections
       are available to all Indiana residents.
