Dead Prez

Taking inspiration from the life and social activism of Malcolm X, Sticman and M-1, the duo who comprise Dead Prez, have released two proper albums, two underground mix-tapes and two solo albums of street level political hip-hop that is heavily aligned with challenging the status quo, prompting London’s Daily Telegraph to say, “Dead Prez uses music not to lie about having expensive cars or girlfriends with big bottoms, but to rail against the inequities in American society. They do so with an insight and honesty that is rare in any art-form, let alone hip-hop

Run With Kittens
Quite possibly the hardest working original rock and roll band in Toronto, Run With The Kittens have played almost three hundred shows in their four year career. It’s like when you and your friends would put your favorite hits of the day on the hi-fi and rock out on badminton rackets and brooms, with your ‘singer’ letting loose into a turkey baster. Now imagine you’re in the middle of that, and you’ve magically been transported to the world of grownups, arriving with a cement truck’s worth of great songs and the tightest performance to be found anywhere. Got it? That’s Run With The Kittens.
Although she is seemingly a city girl, Corey’s music speaks of a nostalgia for the country side and old friends. Born in Toronto and based in Montreal, Corey Gulkin began her journey into folk music when she was 12 years old. She began playing viola in her elementary school folk band, and since then Corey has since picked up several other instruments including guitar and more recently, banjo. She sang lead vocals in Montreal based folk band the Rusty Horse Band (not to be confused with the Neil Young cover band).
