Vision for Social Prosperity in Dufferin Area:

“Dufferin County will speak with one voice as
we establish an integrated mechanism for social,
economic and environmental planning in a way that
respects historic continuity, maintains and protects
the natural environment, coordinates and promotes
services and establishes a sense of community for
all of Dufferin County, so that we can enhance and
celebrate the prosperity,health and well-being of
the diverse citizens of our County.”

Definition:
To enhance the economic prosperity of
  Dufferin County by attracting clean and
  socially responsible industries that provide
  meaningful work and to ensure adequate
  support for those industries with expanded
  post-secondary educational opportunities.

   Evidence shows a growing number of
    overweight children in Canada.
   Dufferin County has a generally younger
    population than the provincial average
   A significant percentage of our local
    residents are providing full-time care to
    children.

   Research shows a correlation between obesity
    and rural/smaller town living.
   Public health data indicate a significant increase
    in the percentage of overweight people in
    Wellington and Dufferin Counties between 1996 &
    2001 -- from 25-29% to 35-39% in males and from
    14-19% to 30-34% in females

The Dufferin Area Experience:

   Research has found that time spent in a vehicle is a
    BIGGER predictor of obesity than age, income, education,
    gender & ethnicity.
   Every 30 minutes of commuting increases a person’s risk of
    obesity by 3%.

  outcomes that can not be achieved by a
  single organization or sector working alone.
