1. A set of examination marks x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6 has a mean of 5 and a standard deviation of 1.5.
(a) Find
(i) the sum of the marks, x,
(ii) the sum of the squares of the marks, x2.                                                 [3 marks]

(b) Each mark is multiplied by 2 then 3 is added to it. Find, for the new set of marks,
(i) the mean,
(ii) the variance.                                                                              [4 marks]

2.   Table 6 shows the frequency distribution of the marks of a group of students

(a) Use the graph paper to answer this question.

Using a scale of 2 cm to 10 cm scores on the horizontal axis and 2 cm to 2 pupils on the vertical axis, draw
a histogram to represent the frequency distribution of the scores.
Find the mode score.                                                                               [4 marks]

(b) Calculate the standard deviation of the marks.                                                   [4 marks]
