General Rules and Regulations:
1.  Cloverbud 4-H/Youth, 5-8, may exhibit up to eight (8) items in the Cloverbud Division.
2.  No youth entries will be accepted in Department 11 (Home Economics).
3.  No articles may be entered in the 4H/Youth Department that have been previously exhibited in the
    Benton County Fair or any other Fair.
4.  All articles must have been made and/or arranged by the 4-H/YOUTH EXHIBITOR.

RULES:
1. No mixes are accepted. Only products made from “scratch” may be entered.
2. Cookies and other food suitable for freezing may be cooked and frozen ahead of time, if necessary because
of time.
3. All food products must be on small paper plates and placed in Ziploc plastic bags. Entry tag should be
stapled or taped to the outside of the plastic bag.
4. Food items will not be returned.

Rules:
1. ALL CANNED FRUIT AND VEGETABLES MUST BE DISPLAYED IN
CLEANED AND SEALED STANDARD PINT JARS. Quart jars will not be accepted for judging.
CLEAN OR NEW RINGS MUST BE ON JARS.
2. Only standard Kerr, Ball, Mason, etc. pint jars will be accepted. Jelly must be in pints or 1/2 pints. Only
sealed jars (no paraffin) will be accepted. No food coloring should be added.
3. Current USDA guidelines are recommended. Judging will follow USDA guidelines.
4. All foods must have been canned or dried since August 17, 2010, from fresh fruit or vegetables at least
one week before the fair.
5. Peppers may be entered in 1/2 pint jars.
6. Whole green or yellow beans will not be accepted.
7. Dried foods should be exhibited in standard pint or ½ pint canning jars with lids and rings. They should not
be sealed.
8. Honey will be accepted in the 4-H/Youth Department. Jars should not be sealed.
9. No products, including pickles should use food coloring (except specialty
pickles products, see class #34).
10. Fancy packs are discouraged.
11. Products must be labeled 1 inch from bottom of the jar, on the plain side with a label available from the
Benton County Extension Office or at the Fairgrounds during check-in time.

To promote the art of home canning, and to honor youths who excel at the art of home canning, BALL®
HOME CANNING is offering First Place Youth Award categories. Judges will select the best entry submitted
by a youth in Fruit, Vegetable, Pickle and Soft Spread categories canned in Ball® Jars and sealed with Ball®
Bands with Dome® Lids or Ball® Collection Elite™ Decorative Bands with Dome® Lids or canned in Kerr®
Jars and sealed with Kerr® Bands with Self-Sealing® Lids or Collection Elite™ Decorative Bands with
Dome® Lids. In addition, selection of the best entry submitted by youths in the Soft Spread category will be
limited to entries prepared using one of the Ball® Fruit Jell® Pectin: Regular, No Sugar Needed or Liquid.

Special Contest: Beaver Lake Photo Contest: The Secchi Day on Beaver Lake Sponsors are providing
cash awards for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best photos featuring Beaver Lake. Winners will receive Walmart
Certificates of $50, $30, $20 respectively. Winning photos of this contest will be displayed during
Secchi Day on Beaver Lake, August 20, 2011 at Prarie Creek Pavilion.
                     Exhibits must be picked up on Monday, August 20 from 3 pm to 7 pm.
Rules:
1. 4-Hers/Youth may enter one (1) entry in each class, for a possible eighteen (18) entries total.
2. Photographs must be mounted on a poster board (white, black or colored) which provides a 2 - inch border
   or matted.
3. There in no minimum size of photographs; the maximum size is 8"x10".
4. Entries should be labeled on back with Name, Age, 4-H club, and title of picture.
5. A 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Ribbon will be awarded to each entry.

                       4-H/Youth Division: Environmental Collections
                             Superintendents: Terry & Dorothy Brandeberry
Specifics for entomology collections, leaf collections, and rock and mineral collections are found in
repsective 4-H books (Entomology, Forestry, and Soil Science). Items should have been collected during
the current year.
1. Entomology Collection: May be housed in cigar boxes or in regular display boxes. All insects should
be neatly mounted and labeled according to standard procedures. Minimum of ten (10) insects.
2. Leaf Collection: Twenty (20) common leaf specimens mounted in a notebook or on leaf and seed
mounting cards. These should be labeled with common name and scientific name.
3. Rock and Mineral Collection: Display of minerals, rocks, ores, gems, rock materials and fossils. 50% of
specimens found by collector, other 50% can have been given to the collector and be labeled with specifics
listed as to who found and where. No purchased rocks or minerals allowed. Must be labeled, housed and
mounted in an attractive manner. Minimum of ten (10) specimens.
