Japanese carrier Skymark selects Rolls Royce Trent 900 for Airbus A380
Rolls-Royce signed a letter of intent with the Japanese airline Skymark
Airlines to provide Trent 900 engines to power six Airbus A380 aircraft,
including TotalCare long-term engine service and support. The aircraft will
enter into service in 2014. Skymark is a new customer for Rolls-Royce, and
the airline is the first in Japan to order the Airbus A380. Trent 900 engines
powered the very first A380 to enter service in 2007 and have now been
selected by 11 of 16 airlines who have ordered the aircraft.
Shinichi Nishikubo, president and CEO of Skymark, said “Skymark has
been evaluating the engines for the A380 since it decided to order the
aircraft in 2010... and we came to the conclusion that the Rolls-Royce
Trent 900 engine has superior fuel burn, reliability, economic efficiency
  and aftermarket support”.
The value of the deal, including engines and maintenance, is expected to
be close to $1 billion, according to industry sources. John Leahy (Airbus COO, Customers), Shinichi Nishikubo (Skymark president) and Airbus CEO

The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine passed a
significant milestone on the journey to sup-
port the first flight and entry into service of
the Airbus A350 XWB aircraft. The engine
has completed a 150-hour endurance type
test at INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnica
Aeroespacial) in Madrid, Spain. Based on the
internal condition of the engine, speeds and
temperatures were increased from the origi-
nal target during the test. The engine has
now been sent back to Rolls-Royce in Derby
for a complete strip down and analysis to
confirm durability and component perform-

by existing and potential customer airlines.

engines in its test programme one of which
