Position Announcement in Theatre Design Colorado State University, School of the Arts Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance Positions: Assistant Professor in Theatre Design, Full-Time, Tenure Track Starting Date: August 15, 2008 Qualifications: MFA, PhD, or equivalent in professional experience required. Publications a plus. Candidates must have the ability to design (and teach) in two or more sub-disciplines of theatre design (scenery, costumes, lights, sound, video projection, scenic painting, new media) and to work well with colleagues in the collaborative process of production and departmental and university activities required. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to advance the Department’s commitment to diversity and multiculturalism through research, teaching and outreach with relevant programs, goals and activities. This is an entry-level position. The successful candidate will be appointed untenured and at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary: Commensurate with background and experience. Responsibilities: Colorado State University School of the Arts Division of Theatre and Dance seeks a tenure-track appointment in Theatre Design beginning August 2008. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the areas of candidate's professional design expertise, designing and/or supervising design students in four main stage productions, as well as teaching Introduction to Design, courses in Design Research, Drawing, as well as courses yet to be determined. Candidates will be expected to participate in the shared governance of the division, maintain some level of professional engagement, help the faculty to create and maintain an effective design curriculum. The Theatre Program: The Theatre Program at CSU is committed to promoting a multicultural learning environment within liberal arts setting dedicated to academic studies with practical production experience. The Theatre Program offers a BA degree in performing arts with a theatre concentration and resides in the Division of Dance and Theatre and the School of the Arts at Colorado State University. Our mission is to give undergraduate majors the most advanced tools and technology to develop their own artistic visions, to produce precocious and entrepreneurial young artists who will shape the future of the American theatre, to prepare undergraduates for graduate study or to accept entry-level positions at regional theatres or in the entertainment industry. With three full-time and three adjunct faculty members, the program currently enrolls 75 majors along with servicing students from across the university. During the academic year, the Theatre Program produces four faculty/guest artist-directed productions, chosen from a wide range of dramatic sources, and as many as four student productions per year. During the summer months, CSU Theatre produces at least one production, participation in which provides upperdivision credits. The Theatre Program participates annually in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Former CSU theatre alums are acting, directing, and teaching professionally in a variety of national venues. Other program graduates are in university graduate programs and hold positions in arts promotion, advocacy, journalism, and related arts fields. The Theatre Program is housed in the new University Center for the Arts. The UCA, a vibrant learning environment and showcase for the performing and creative arts, provides the opportunity for dynamic community-university collaborations and programs that will bring to Colorado State, Fort Collins, and the region a new dimension of cultural enrichment and economic benefit. When complete, the UCA will bring performing and visual artists together in one place and provide them with the spaces, facilities, and tools they need to learn, teach, create, collaborate, display, perform, and excel. The University: Colorado State University is a land grant institution with a student enrollment of approximately 25,000 students in over 150 programs and a faculty of approximately 1,400. The College of Liberal Arts, within which the School of the Arts is located, is the largest college in the University.
