                                            JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Title:                    Finance Assistant

Responsible to:               Central Services Accountant/Head of Payments


Overall Purpose

To assist the staff of the Finance and Commercial Services Department in maintaining
the general ledger, inputting of data to the computerised finance system, to reconcile
designated bank accounts on a monthly basis and to assist with the Payments team in the
accurate and timely processing of purchase invoices, credit notes and staff and student
expense claims.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Inputs data in to the computerised finance system, including general ledger and
     cashbook journals, internal recharges across University Schools and Professional
     Services.

    Collates and inputs to the general ledger, the necessary information for allocating
     computer consumables and reprographic charges across the University Schools and
     Departments.

    Sets up new general ledger codes on the computerised finance system, following
     authorisation in accordance with agreed policy.

    Prepare the reconciliation of designated University bank accounts on a monthly basis
     and resolves queries arising from the reconciliation process.

    Assists the Central Services Accountant in the production of monthly management
     information and provides analysis as required.

    Sets up new suppliers on the University computerised finance system after
     authorisation.

    Prepares suppliers invoices in readiness for authorisation and input into the finance
     system.

    Processing of invoices, credit notes and staff and student expense claims to the
     University computerised finance system.

    Assists in the checking of creditor payment runs and matching remittance advices
     with relevant invoices.

    Undertakes other duties as required commensurate with the grading and general
     nature of the post, may include assistance within other areas of the Finance
     Department.

Job Title:                    Finance Assistant

Hours:                        Full time - 37 hours per week

Salary:                       Grade 4 £17,329 - £19,411 per annum

Work Base:                    Park Campus or any of The University of Northampton premises
                              as required

Pension:                      Eligible to join the Local Government Pension – final salary
                              scheme

Holidays:                     21 days per annum plus 5 days after 5 years continuous service
                              plus Bank Holidays and Closed days.

Notice period:                1 months


        Probationary period – 6 months

        Compliance with Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 and Immigration Asylum and
         Nationality Act 2006

        Satisfactory Pre-employment Health Questionnaire
