Belfast City
Belfast is a city reborn; where old and new go hand in hand. The
birthplace of the Titanic has reinvented itself so successfully
that it’s a Lonely Planet ‘city on the rise’. Above all, Belfast
has a warmth and hospitality quite unlike anywhere else. The
city can be divided into quarters each with their own stories
to tell; Cathedral Quarter, Titanic Quarter, Gaeltacht Quarter
and Queen’s Quarter. The city’s oldest quarter centres around
Saint Anne’s Cathedral; an area packed with cobbled streets,
historic pubs and superb restaurants. Try local specialties like
Champ, Irish Stew or the infamous ‘Belfast Bap’. Watch street
theatre at Custom House Square, catch the cookery demos and
live jazz at St. George’s Market every Saturday morning or chat
with locals over a pint at McHugh’s Bar & Restaurant which
dates back to 1711 and is the oldest surviving building in Belfast
today. Throughout the city you will discover many atmospheric
restaurants, cosy bars and informal cafes serving the very best
seasonal dishes.

known by locals as ‘Samson and Goliath’.

Climb Cave Hill for a different view of the city
Distinguished by the basaltic outcrop (known by locals as
‘Napoleon’s Nose’), it is said to have inspired the famous novel
Gulliver’s Travels. No trip to Cave Hill would be complete
without a visit to Belfast Castle and The Cellar Restaurant,
renowned for its wholesome local produce and friendly service.

Beatrice Kennedy
44 University Road, Belfast, BT7 1NJ

Located in the vibrant University Quarter of South Belfast,
the restaurant is a converted Victorian terraced town-house
(circa 1860’s). We have retained many of the architectural
features, as well as books and artefacts belonging to the
former residents Dr Kennedy and his wife Beatrice, hence
the restaurant’s name.

Established as a restaurant since 1996, it has claimed many
accolades including the AA Rosette Award in consecutive
years since 2000; The Bridgestone Award and featured in the
Georgina Campbell Jameson Guide. Serving modern cuisine,
expect to find deliciously surprising food combinations. While
the regularly changing menu features a choice of seafood
dishes, we always offer a selection of beef, pork, chicken,
duck or game to provide a balanced menu. All pasta, bread
and desserts are made on the premises and locally sourced
products are used as much as possible.

We are now renowned for outstanding food and service and
for hosting special occasions including graduations and

McHugh’s Bar & Restaurant
29-31 Queens Square, Belfast, BT11 3FG

Located in the heart of the trendy Cathedral Quarter,
McHugh’s is housed in Belfast’s oldest building, dating back
to 1711. Now, a grade ‘A’ listed building, McHugh’s Bar has
been sympathetically restored to its Georgian splendour and
is a focal point in both Belfast’s gastronomic and nightlife
scenes.

Within the main bar, McHugh’s offers a homely feel with open
fires and comfortable seating - the perfect place to relax with
the best beers in Belfast. The basement bar plays host to live
bands during the week from traditional music to the local
rock music scene and sounds to suit alternative tastes at the
weekend.

The 100-seater restaurant provides home-cooked, traditional
Irish food with a modern twist and is the only place in Belfast
to serve Black Rock Grills; cook your own steak at your
table on a 430 degree volcanic rock. The rock intensifies the
flavour and provides the most amazing aromas. It’s a unique
and exciting dining experience.

The Kitchen Bar
1 Victoria Square, Belfast, BT1 4GQ

The Kitchen Bar is one the most historical pubs in Belfast.
The original pub, dating back to 1859 was the favourite
watering hold for the star performers of Belfast’s famous
music hall, The Empire.

Relocated just around the corner from its original site to an
old converted warehouse, to make way for the new Victoria
Square development, it retains all the charm and charisma
that visitors experienced at its original location with the well
regarded view of being the friendliest bar in all of Belfast!

We have become famous for our Paddy Pizzas – home made
soda bread topped with chicken or ham and tomatoes, onions
and melting Coleraine Cheddar Cheese – DELICIOUS!

Using only fresh produce from local suppliers, we have
become renowned for quality home cooked food that mammy
used to make.
