Carol,

I have perused the proposal to convert the degree program and the
proposal for the new course in Perspectives in Environmental Education.
I see no conflict with anything in Geosciences and am in support of
both.

Dear Carol.

I certainly have no problem with your proposals however you need to be
aware that the two Econ classes that you list, ECP 6334 and 6336 have
never been offered and will not be. They were to be part of a special
MS-Energy Economics program that failed to attract enough attention to
carry on with it.

Hey Steve,

It looks fine to me. The only history courses are the two relevant ones that Sandy teaches. Even
if these are not taught regularly there are enough other courses in the listing that can be taken
instead. As I am the department’s rep on the graduate committee we’ll probably just need a
memo from both you and me agreeing to the new degree. I actually like the fact that the program
involves several colleges. Would you like me to run this by Sandy or do you want to do it?

Proposal

Hi Carol,
I do not know if my chair has responded, but I looked at the proposal.
The courses included for economics (ECP 6336 and ECP 6338) are ones that are part of a now
defunct masters in Energy Economics.
We do not plan to offer these courses in the future, as far as I know, so to include them in your
program would not be advisable.
Bill

Subject: Environmental Education New Degree Program Proposal and New Course Proposal

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Department of Teacher Education, I am submitting a new degree program
proposal requesting a conversion from a track in the Masters Degree in Curriculum and
Instruction to a stand-alone degree in Environmental Education. Additonally, I am submitting a
new course proposal for SCE 6045 (Perspectives of Environmental Education). I am attaching
the degree conversion proposal and new course syllabus for your review.
I would appreciate you or your representative reviewing the degree conversion proposal, as well
as the curriculum of the new course, and if you are in agreement, confirming by e-mail (by
February 25th), that
they do not conflict with any programs or courses offered through your respective departments.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a meeting, please feel free to contact me at
meltzer@fau.edu or carolmeltzer@bellsouth.net.

Best Wishes,
Carol Meltzer

Dr. Carol Meltzer,

The Department of Instructional Technology and Research has reviewed the
materials that you sent to us on your masters of Environmental Education
program and the course SCE 6045. From the materials present to us, the new
course: SCE 6045, Perspectives of Environmental Education does not conflict
with our curriculum, nor does the presently described master’s degree program in
environmental Education. Your new plan is acceptable to our department.
Please feel free to contact me for any further information at (954) 236-1261.

Sincerely,

Dr. Don Torok, FACSM
Acting Department Chair,
Instructional Technology & Research
