1. Mechanics:
      Moment of inertia, simple harmonic motion, viscosity, heat, calorimatery,
conductivity radiation and pyrometry.
2. Acoustic
       Consideration of acoustic in equipment’s and large auditoriums. Harmonic
analysis – levels of sound used in various broad casting systems.
3. Lights
       Photo metery and geometrical optic, nature of light, equation of light waves in
electrical and magnetic field configurations. Polarization of light waves, Maxwell
equations. Semi conductor physics, semiconductor materials and conductions in
solid.
4. Illumination
       Definition, terms, laws of illumination, measurement of candle power solid
angle, candle, luminous flux, lumen hour, lighting schemes and layout, utilization
factor, depreciation factor, incandescent lamp, low pressure mercury vapor lamp,
sodium discharge lamp.
       Practical based on the above theory.

Temperature transducer:

T-to-F conversion using Diodes. Direct T-to-F conversion with an IC, Absolute
temperature-to-current conversion, simplest readout, an analog meter, voltage
readout, measuring differential temp T-to-F conversion using diodes, direct T-to-F
conversion with an LC, absolute temperature to current conversion, simplest
readout, an analog meter, voltage readout, measuring differential tempt, average,
minimum and maximum temperatures, circuits, high low temperature monitoring,
multiplexed applications, isolation, 4-20mA current transmission, sound velocity
monitor.

Pressure transducer interfacing:

 Strain-based transfers, rheostat output, pressure transducer, potentiometer-to-
frequency transducer, potentiometer-to-frequency transducer.

Conversion between bases, arithmetic with bases other than ten, negative numbers,
binary coded decimal numbers, octal, and hexadecimal number systems.

Truth function
Binary connectives, evaluation of truth functions, many statement compounds,
physical realizations, sufficient sets of connectives, a digital computer examples.

Boolean algebra
Truth functional calculus as Boolean algebra, duality, fundamental theorems of
Boolean algebra, examples of Boolean simplifications, remarks on switching
functions.

Switching devices:
Switches and relays, logic circuits, speed and delays in logic circuits, integrated logic
circuits.

Minimization of Boolean functions
Standard forms of Boolean functions, minterm and maxterm, designation of Boolean

Tabular minimization
Cubical representation of Boolean functions, determination of prime implicants,

Amplifier analysis
Transistor as an amplifier, hybrid model of a transistor. Transistor. Small signal
analysis, large signal analysis, gain calculation of single stage amplifier, cascading,
multistage gain calculations.

Classification of amplifier:
Classification of amplifier on the basis of biasing, class-A, class-B, class AB and class C
amplifier. Push pull amplifier, complementary symmetry amplifier.

Classification of amplifier on the basis of coupling, RC coupled amplifier, transformer
coupled amplifier, direct coupled amplifier.

Classification of amplifier on the basis of frequency. Audio frequency amplifier, radio
frequency amplifier, tuned amplifiers.

Feedback
Feedback concept, feedback amplifiers, voltage feedback amplifier, current feedback
amplifier, effect of feedback on frequency response, nonlinear distortion and noise,
series and shut feedback amplifier.

Practical amplifier consideration
Input and output impedance, real and apparent gain, amplifier loading, impedance
matching and cascading.

Oscillators
Basic theory of oscillators, tank circuit, damp and un-dump oscillations, phase shift
oscillator, call pit oscillator, Hartley oscillator, wein bridge oscillator.

Project B-ELT 162
The department will assign the title and necessary details of the technical work
relating to the subject of department project list. The project topic may emerge
following discussions with potential supervisor. The nature of project may be
predominantly design, experimental, computing/analysis or sometimes a critical
literature survey. The departmental will depute one member of the faculty to act as
project supervisor.
