Welcome to GRATEFUL, Inc. Pageant. This event is dedicated to building self esteem and long lasting friendships for young girls’ age 0-17. GRATEFUL, Inc. Pageant is a “natural” pageant. In this event we do not encourage heavy makeup, glitzy clothes and rehearsed routines, although we recognize dress up is fun. We encourage creativity, positive relationship building, and being happy with what God has given us. We believe that all women have a voice and have the ability to make a difference in our society. We hope that participating in our social network will help girls feel great about themselves and make awesome choices. We believe that having positive options will assist young girls to resist the temptations of the environment. This pageant is designed to give young women a "self esteem boost" and an outlet to express her creativity and show off her talents. This pageant also gives caretakers the opportunity to bond with the participant. Whether it is picking out clothes or practicing a routine, valuable communication time is created. Participation is open to any girl who wants to have a great experience. Sincerely, Ms. Erin Pageant Director Rules & Guidelines Contestants must compete in BEAUTY OVERALL which is included in the registration fee. Contestants will be able to choose to compete in any or all other OPTIONAL categories and the SIDE AWARDS categories. MANDATORY CATEGORIES BEAUTY OVERALL - This event is mandatory for all contestants. Contestants will do a simple walk on the stage. All contestants can wear a short or long dress, you would bring a simple street length dress, (Easter type, flower girl type). Ages 12 yrs. and over can wear a floor length evening gown, you should bring a floor length formal gown, something you would wear to the prom. Dresses can be any color. Please note that we try to encourage simple flowing gowns rather than very form fitting gowns for the 12-17 year old girls. Judging will be based on style and fit of dress, stage presence, and overall appeal. We supply the music. Time Limit: 1 minute PHOTOGENIC -Submit your best head shot or full length photo! We are looking for a photo that captures your personality and your personal style. Bring your photo to registration. Photos do not have to be from a professional photographer at this level. You may consider taking the picture yourself or getting pictures taken at your local picture studio. All photos will be returned. Judging will be based on personal style, personality projection, facial beauty, overall impression, quality and clarity. Photo sizes: 8”x10” or 8.5”x11” OPTIONAL CATEGORIES(subject to change per event)- We will not be allowing flips, cartwheels or round offs in ALL onstage routines. For dancers we encourage you to wear your dancing attire and you can do “dance moves” at each X however we are not looking for a talent routine. THEME WEAR-This is a free style-modeling/ Talent event. Show us your imagination and creativity. We are looking for you to take the theme and make it special to you. You should get help from parents and caretakers when deciding what to choose. Judging will be based on personality, modeling (ability to age), creativity, stage presence and overall appearance. Please supply and label your own music on CD to be given to the DJ just prior to your performance. GRATEFUL, Inc will not be responsible for any music that does not work correctly. Props may be used but, should be easily positioned by one person. Contestants do not have to use the entire time allotted however they may not go over or points will be lost. For the Wilkes-Barre, PA pageant the theme is “How the West was Fun”(in other words Western Wear). Time Limit: 2 minute PHOTO SPREAD/COLLAGE- Create a photo collage of your best 6-12 photos (Suggested you may have more photos) and bring it to registration on a tri fold display board. They can be on-location shots or studio shots. They can be head shots, three quarter or full length. Judging will be based on appeal, creativity of display, effort, quality and clarity. Photos sizes may vary SIde Awards (subject to change per event) PERSONALITY- Judged during beauty. Judged on a combined score of appeal, confidence, and modeling. PRETTIEST EYES- Judged during beauty. Judged on a combined score of appeal, style, and eye contact with judges. PRETTIEST SMILE- Judged during beauty. Judged on a combined score of appeal and consistency. PET-Judged based on a combination of a picture of pet (up to size 8x10) and 2-5 sentences that tells something special about pet. MAKE A DIFFERENCE CATEGORY -"WHAT A DIFFERENCE I MAKE"- Anything the participant or her family has done to help her school, church, or community. -Money Raised For Identified Charity- Based on amount of money raised. A combined total of pre-ticket sales, chance ticket sales, and Peoples Choice Queen. Fashion Show Jackpot- Open to all who pay fee, enter to win. Fashion show will showcase any outfit or style you want. Casual, couture, formal wear, or retro, anything you want. Contestants that wish to participate in the fashion show competition must pre register. Due to time constraints there may be a limit on the number of entries. Judging will be based on creativity, appeal, and stage presence. Winners will receive Cash prize, and 1st and 2nd runners up will receive prizes. Time limit: 1 minute Outfit of Choice Fashion show- This is a free style modeling event. Contestants will get the opportunity to go onstage and model any type of outfit they like. The Theme for this activity is “Denim Wear”. This is a fun activity and no one will be judged but, every participant gets a prize. REGISTRATION Pageant spaces are limited. No more than 10 entries will be accepted in each division. These spaces are given on a first come basis. We reserve the right to split divisions with high/low entries. Registration provides entrance for child and one guest/chaperon. MIXER- Girls are encouraged to participate in a social mixer pre registration activity. For the Wilkes-Barre, PA Pageant, the mixer will be held Saturday November 10, 2012, at the venue. The time and location will be available a little closer to the event. At the mixer each girl will bring a snack or food item to share with her new friends. Beverages will be provided. There will be a modeling workshop for girls new to pageants. This will also be a time to get to know new friends. Early registration for the pageant will be conducted at this time. Girls are also urged to bring their “Friends for Life” gifts. The mixer is NOT mandatory. After entry fee is paid, contestants can register for other categories at will. Only cash is accepted on the day of event. All contestants should be pre registered to secure their space. AWARDS and TITLES (subject to change per event) 2 Supreme Titles- Judged for contestants that participate in every category and have the highest scores. One winner from age 0-6 and One winner from age 7-17 will receive: Official Large crown, large trophy, sash, and prizes. Division Winner- Judged on combined score of Beauty overall and following guidelines. One overall winner in each age division will receive: Official Queen Title, Official Crown, Trophy and Sash Theme Wear Winner- Judged on combined score of Creativity and following guidelines. One overall winner in each age division will receive: Official Crown and Sash Optional Categories- Judged on a combined score of creativity, stage presence, and effort. One winner in each age division will receive: Official Crown and/or Trophy and Certificate Side Awards- Judged during beauty. Judged on a combined score of appeal, style, and creativity. One winner in each age division will receive: Sash and trophy or gift. Best Pet- Judged based on a combination of a picture of pet (up to size 8x10) and a paragraph that tells something special about pet. No more than 5 sentences. Entries must be submitted at early registration (Mixer) or mailed prior to Mixer. Overall winner, 1st and 2nd per pageant will receive: Trophy and other prizes. "I Make a Difference" Categories: Community Activist- Judged based on impact in the community and a combination of a picture (if possible up to size 8x10) and a paragraph that tells what was done. No more than 15 sentences. Entries must be submitted at early registration (Mixer) or mailed prior to Mixer. One winner will receive: Official Trophy and Certificate Top Charity fund raiser- Judged based on amount of money raised. A combined total of ticket sales and chance ticket sales. One winner will receive: Official Trophy and Certificate Peoples Choice Queen- 100% of all money donated will go to the cultivation of the GRATEFUL GEMS program. Contestant who get the most voters to give $1.00 to put their name on her form will receive the Title of Peoples Choice Queen 2012, Crown, and a Sash. Fashion Show- Judging will be based on creativity, appeal, and stage presence. One winner from age 0-9 and One winner from age10-17 will receive: Cash prize based on entries, and 1st and 2nd runners up will receive prizes. No one leaves Empty Handed- Each event will have a special characteristic that provides each girl with a gift, example; Easter, all girls received a basket and items collected during the event to fill it. There are also free activities that give our contestants a chance to get on stage and win prizes. Friends for life Gifts- To promote relationship building, each participant will bring in a small gift for each other participant in their age division. Each gift should have the girl’s name, birth date and contact information so they can remain in touch. Contact Pageant Director 2 weeks prior to event to get the exact count of participants (10 girls per division is the estimate). These should be very small age appropriate items. Any parent, teacher, guest, director or participant who conducts themselves in an unsportsmanlike/unladylike manner (before, during, or after a GRATEFUL, Inc. PAGEANT CHECKLIST Below is a list of items you should have on the day of the pageant. Use this list as a guide and checklist as you prepare for the pageant. It is always a good idea to use it again as a checklist the night before and/or the morning of the pageant, before you leave your house, double check that you have EVERYTHING that you will need for the day. 1. Beauty dress and shoes. 1. Professional photo for judging. 1. Theme Attire 1. Attire for each optional category. (If you are registered) 1. Music on CD for Theme wear. 1. Any typed items prepared such as introduction cards completed, Best Pet summary, and “I make a difference” statement. 1. Hair and Make-up equipment (hot rollers, curling irons, pins, hairspray, etc.) 1. Personal hygiene products. 1. Small amount of cash to purchase items from the snack bar. 1. Folding chairs for the dressing room. Seating may be limited. 1. Mirrors - you may bring any size mirror, up to full length, that you may want or need to use. 1. One (1) suitcase or bag - all of your belongings should be packed into one suit case or bag. There will not be enough room in the dressing room for each contestant to have several bags or suitcases lying around. 1. A blanket of some sort to lay out on the floor as your “SPACE” to put your things on and prepare for the pageant. 1. EVERYONE is responsible for cleaning up the dressing room. Once you are in your Beauty dress for crowning, everyone needs to get packed up and everything cleaned up. Throw your trash out, etc. In order to protect every ones property there will be NO FOOD IN THE DRESSING ROOMS!!! All food can be taken to and eaten in the hall or auditorium area only Additional Information for November 11, 2012 In order to have your name included in the Program, Participants must be paid before November 1, 2012. All ads must be in by that time. Chance Tickets- Contestants can ask patrons to order chance tickets through the website and make sure they use their name so contestant can get charity credit. Tickets can also be mailed to contestant. Fund Raiser $1- Peoples Choice Queen. Each vote will be $1.00. Please keep a list of names. Money can be turned in at registration. Crowning will be during Pageant. For the November 11, 2012 Pageant the money collected will be used to create and support a GRATEFUL GEMS programs in Wilkes-Barre, PA. We will come together and have beauty workshops, modeling classes, Pageant coaching, and social mixers. Program Books will be available at all events. Any girl registered by deadline will have her name in the book. Sponsors and family are welcome to put an ad in the program book. The cost is $25.00 per quarter page. Please have ad print ready. Businesses that sponsor a girl will receive a free quarter page ad. So please get all your friends and family involved. We together can make our organization a huge success.
