Project:   Genetics and Genomics of alcohol sensitivity in Drosophila melanogaster.

2004—2008: Postdoctoral Fellow, Zoology Department and W.M. Keck Center for
           Behavioural Biology, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC
Project:   Alcohol sensitivity in Drosophila melanogaster: Drosophila, as a model
           system for discovering candidate genes that may predispose to alcohol
           addiction in humans.
2000–2004: Junior researcher, Laboratory of Genome Variation (Head - Dr. E.
           Pasyukova), Department of Cell Molecular Genetics (Head – Prof. V.A.
           Gvozdev) Institute of Molecular Genetics, Russian Academy of Sciences,
           Moscow, Russia.
Project: principal: The copia retrotransposon regulatory sequences that interact with
           cell factors and determine the tissue- and sex-specificity of retrotransposon
           expression;
           secondary: Molecular characterization the shuttle craft (stc) gene - one of
           the candidate genes, affecting longevity in Drosophila lines from natural
           populations.
2000-2001: Visiting researcher, Departments of Genetics and Zoology, NCSU, USA,
           personal grants from the W.M. Keck Center for Behavioral Biology at North
           Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC
Project:   Construction of transgenic flies overexpressing genes, that might be relevant
           for the development of glaucoma.

Project:   Molecular and     population mechanisms of        regulation   of   the   copia
           retrotransposon activity in Drosophila melanogaster lines.


Research interests:
   1) Drosophila as a model system for human diseases, translational approach: from
      flies to human;
     2) Genetic factors for alcohol sensitivity;
     3) Mechanisms of retrotransposon-host interactions;
     4) Genetic control of retrotransposon activity


Methods: basic Drosophila genetic and molecular techniques, in situ hybridization with
salivary gland chromosomes, P-element mediated Drosophila transformation, DNA
cloning, Southern-blot analysis, PCR, qRT-PCR, qualitative and quantitative analysis of
the β-galactosidase activity, Western blot analysis, in situ RNA hybridisation,
maintenance of culture cells, cell transformation, pyrosequencing, Affymetrix whole
genome transcriptional profiling, Illumina GoldenGate genotyping technology.
