The “Emerging Jesus”? Matthew 19: 16-22 & 2 Peter 2:1 Matthew 19:16 – 22
                                                                                        - A rich young man came to Him asking how he could get eternal life.
Intro: Brothers: You be Jesus. Three golfers; Jesus, God and Moses. - His riches bought everything else so he assumed he could afford it
                                                                                            too.
The Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel - He wanted to add eternal life to his portfolio of assets.
-Jesus comes to us as a KING! - Jesus said to exchange a life of plenty for a life of poverty. To quit

         all of Israel’s enemies.
these valuable things for eternal life. He simply couldn’t see living

    Jesus speaks with authority!

(Chap. 13) The #1 subject in the teaching of Jesus was “The Kingdom of Heaven”. - Jesus could not, and WOULD NOT lower the cost to make a sale.
   - But as he began to teach, they quickly realized his kingdom was vastly - Salvation is not a bargain. There is One price. The same for all.

- No harm in adding experiential centers and a broader view of God’s
activity in our world. (Other than the traditional church has recognized in
the past.)
- We must consider methods that best connect with our community.
- Every method must point in the end to Jesus Christ as the only way to

2 Peter 2:1
“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be
false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies,
even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift
destruction on themselves.”

So what should we do about it?
    - Increase our knowledge from God’s Word about who Jesus is and
what character qualities He is planting in us as His disciples. (Not
       just followers)
    - Become more aware of the inconsistencies in the beliefs of other
       faiths.
    - Understand what the Kingdom of God looks like so we can do our
best to allow His kingdom to be created in our home and church.

    Looking for an “Experience”?.
When you KNOW the Person, It makes all the difference.
    - When you get to know the leader and his heart, your perspective
       and motivation changes.
